In our 4B semester when we officially became seniors we ioined whole heartedly m the senior activities We elected for that semester Harold Hunt as president Dons Colby vice president Dolores Koehler secretary and Phil Nelson treasurer Of course we went to all the foot ball games to watch Iohn Neumann Iohn Twomey Ioe Aquado Ken Tilman Bob Carl sten Andy Buhelos and Sheldon Carroll carry the ball over the goal to help our team win those thrilling games We crowded to the basketball games where B111 Pranger Paul ODea lim Foster Al Armour Warren Weaver Howard Schick and Bill Moser piled up the points to keep up our teams reputation Ruth Hoagland became photo editor and Norma Piper literary editor of the Pme In February the officers climaxed their terms by arranging a 4B class dance at the Hayes Hotel When we at last claimed the t1tle of graduating seniors our election was quite an event Should woman or should woman not be president? the question of the day was very definitely answered when Ioan Spratt overcame her opponents to become the first girl president of a 4A class In that same election Bill Moser became the new vice president Millicent Linkrs the secretary and Richard Wood the treasurer Eleanor Asp was elected president of the ed1tor1nch1ef of the Press assisted by news editors Ruth Hoagland and Charlotte Thomas copy readers Violet Andrew and Donna Sneath feature editors Barbara Faus and Ioan Spratt scholastic editor Norma Piper make up editor Marilyn Eggersman and reporter Iamce Ihne Dolores Koehler and Doris Colby were elected officers of the A Cappella and Dolores Kim mey became president of the Glee Club Such things as campus leaders senior com mlttees and prom dates suddenly took on a new interest as graduation drew near Prac tlcally every day new officers were chosen for some organization: for instance, Iohn Twomey was elected president of the Senior Honor Society with Florence Nordstrom, vice-presi- dent: Diann Carlson, secretary: and William Wadkins treasurer Discussions about where the prom should be held and where we were going to get dates slipped into almost every conversation But that is all in the past now for the day has finally arrived when we officially take off our bobby sox and become men and women of the world But there IS no use feeling sorry or sad about leaving after all you cant stay in school all of your life Today Parker High officially closes its doors upon us not neces sarily because it wants to get rid of us but because there are new seniors to fill our so recently emptied saddle shoes new juniors new sophomores and new freshies starting just as we started four short years ago So with the knowledge we have gained the fun we have experienced and the friends with whom we shared all this we turn our backs upon Parker High School and face the world and its chal lenges 1111, sbsgyf 3 1, fx VYSPIQ 2 s'C'i.-'LL .1131- -7'111' :l if im: ll? I l A 49 er Hvuse 5 'af' X Live bug specimens, the portrait that glowed in the dark, lost teeth, crystal ball readings- these, combined with the excellent acting of eighteen seniors, talented directing by Mr. Raymond Kelly, and much helpful behind-the- scenes work, made the four presentations of Tiger House by Robert St. Claire memorable in Parker history. Amy Lou Bignall cmd Phyllis Nash were charming as the attractive but frightened hero- ine. Dick Mecker competently took the part of the hero. Ruth Fenner and Elaine Hutchinson did excellent character acting as old Aunt Sophia. The superstitious old Scotch servant was cleverly portrayed by Lois Amato, and Cathie Mitchell. Norval Stephens with his passion for collecting bugs and Michael Del- medico as the be-turbaned Yami brought down the house. Kathie, Dolores DeMuth, Mary Doranjean. and Mary Gemeny each in turn portrayed admirably the heroine's friend. Betty lean Owen and Mary Zini were excellent as the mystery woman, and so were Bruce Hansen, Ed Shroyer, and Mel Timmons as the two villains of the play. Special credit should be given to the pupils who worked as the stage crew, the electricians, the publicity agents, the prompters, the stage directors, and the make-up artists. Steifan. V Guucncmd M Murphy M Center Playing at assemblies, football games, and graduation exercises is a part of the activities of the Parker Band. Captain Alfred G. Hansen provides a constant supply of trained musicians for the intermediate and advanced bands by taking in beginning students in the Beginners' Band and training them to play a musical in- strument. Instruments, music, and training are offered free of charge to any student interested in band work: thus a wonderful opportunity is furnished to those who might otherwise never know how to play an instrument. The Inter- mediate and the Concert Band offer practice and training in band work to students already skilled in the use of an instrument. This spring the parents of the band members have formed a parents' organization to sponsor the band and its activities. On April 9 of this year the Parker Band en- tered the annual band contest held in the Har- rison High School Auditorium. Last year Parker came out of the contest with an S rating, and had great hopes of doing the same this year. This year the Concert Band, which plays at G.A.A. dances and other events, had an enroll- ment of forty-four members while the Inter- mediate group claimed twenty-four members and the Beginners' Band had thirty. At the end posts we found Andy Buhelos and Seymour Stein, brother of Captain Stein. These two boys, ac- companied by Bob Madliner, another end, pulled down many an aerial to supplement a touchdown drive. Now that we've torn apart the muscle and drive portion of the team, we'll go over to the brains department, the two who decide what play to use and why, the center and the quar- ter back. The previously unmentioned Iohn Twomey stood directly behind Stein as the play commenced. Iohn, an outstanding field general himself, collaborated with Sid on of- fense, while S. Parker's baseball future in 1947 hinged upon the performance of untested members of last year's squad and survirors of this spring's tryouts. The squad had lost eight players through graduation, five of them regulars. Ab- sent from the opening day session were the midyear graduates, Alvin Vinik, Ioe Newton, and Russ Walsh, all outfielders. These three were regulars of last year's team which, while encountering difficulties in section play, man- aged to knock off Fenger, the team that went on to win the state championship. The main cogs in Coach Andrew Holmes' '46 baseball machine were Catcher Bill Moser, veteran of four seasons of first-string service behind the plate, lim Foster, combination pit- cher-second baseman and always a depend- able batter, Shortstop Bill Cohen, and Charlie Kellogg, playing his third and last season in the outfield. Other returning lettermen who were less experienced but saw a lot of action were Don Casey, promisin first baseman, and infielders Dave Poole andiim Hooker. 146 '-mr, Irm Foster B111 Cohen B111 Moser hm Hooker BACK ROW D Simpson D Keane H Walsh H Record B Moser L Foster A Holmes MIDDLE ROW G Chervreount 0 Cort: B Cohen D Casey I Foster I Newton I Hooker BACK ROW-C Kellogg I Kypreos D Poole A Vunk Hyde Park 4 ..........,.. Zllfestlf If you stop in the gym during the winter months youll find the rugged side of the male population of Parker working hard at body building strategy and new holds These lads are always striving for perfection in physical stamina and mental alertness. Under the able instruction of Coach Anton- ides the wrestlers fought their way through another tough season. This year the team was lead by co-captains Iohn Clark and Beau Spirakes. The squad had many outstanding grapplers this season. Tom Tourlas was acclaimed for his sixteen-second pin in the Morgan Park meet. Big Ioe Aquado did a great job in his heavyweight class. Co-captains Spirakes and Clark also were essential in gaining points for Parker. Other stand-outs on the '47 wrestling squad were Bob Madlener, Don Kohlman, Bob Talsma, Don Anderson, Ray Zaker, Larry Rein- bolt, Iohn Neenan, Iohn Stanton, Art Holmes. and Frank Vattano. Under the direction of Mrs. Sarah Dar- gan, the girls have been active at pep rallies and football games. Interest is always added to pep rallies by the skillful baton-twirling of our attractive majorettes. Spectators at football games gaze in admiration at the talent shown by Parker's twirlers. The graduating majorettes are Ieanette De- Ionge, Martha Kopoulas, and Amanthis Pap- pas.
