Aiddns f n ng 'i ' , DEDICA TION To the memory of Tim Carnahan, we dedicate the 1973 La Reata. Tim was born in Los Angeles on May 21, 1955. Has always been interested in music, especially drumming. Tim gave Parker High School a greater appreciation of music through his enthusiasm. Though Tim is gone, his hopes and aspirations will live forever especially with those who knew him well. Yes, Tim Carnahan truly had a dream and a faith in his fellow man unequalled by most men in an average life time. The Good Old Times All times when old is good. Parker High School La Reata 1973 A Student Publication Lesa Flores-Editor 3 What is time? The shadow on the dial, the striking of the clock, the running of the sand, day and night, summer and winter, months, years, centuries--these are but arbitrary and outward signs, the measure of Time, not Time itself. Time is the Life of the soul. Longfellow That great mystery of TIME, were there no other; the illimitable, silent, never-resting thing called •Time, rolling, rushing on, swift, silent, like an all-embracing ocean tide, on which we and all the Universe swim like exhalations, like apparitions which are, and then are not this is forever very literally a miracle; a thing to strike us dumb, —lor we nave no word to speak about it. Carlyle, Heroes and Hero-Worship Lecture 1. Time is one's best friend, teaching best of all the wisdom of silence. SPORT'S MEMORIES Twas three weeks before Christmas, and all through the stands, not a creature was stirring, not even the bands. The fans, thery were nestled all snug in their coats, while visions of touchdowns brought cheers to their throats. And I, in my blanket, and friends without name, had just settled down for the championship game. When up in the stands there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter. The lights on the crest of the cold, frosty grass let me see we'd completed a very long pass. When, what kind of wonderful sight should be mine, but a Parker Bronc running across the goal line. And a little old coach, so fine I could tell, in the blink of an eye that it must be Mundell. Then over the goal line his players they came and he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: Now Lewis, now Suiter, now Holt and now Dobbs, on Lancaster, Ripberger, Webster, and Clause. Tonight make our team like a ten-foot wall. Now dash away, dash away, dash away all! And then in a twinkling I heard from the crowd the screaming, the clapping, the yelling so loud, as the Parker Broncs raised their lead play after play, and Ajo's dreams of victory faded away. Then the game was all over, Ajo had to yield, and the players all bore Coach Mundell off the field. But I heard him exclaim as he rode through the night: We're State Champions! to all, then he said, Out-a-site! PARKER Hi Mr. Maniaci We, the 1973 LA REATA STAFF would like to extend our thanks to the PARKER PIONEER for use of their Varsity Football pictures, both individual and action shoots.
