A STUDENT PUBLICATION PARKER HIGH DEDICATION For the past 16 years Parker High School has been under the able administration of Mr. Emmett Sims. PHS has grown considerably during these years as many classrooms, a library, a music building, shops, a 40-acre addition with a new track and baseball field and other facilities have been built to meet the needs of our growing student body. PHS was a small Class B school with a staff of 19 and a student body of 192 when Mr. Sims arrived in 1955. Today we have a faculty of 29 and an enrollment of 515, putting us in Class A. Under Mr. Sims leadership we became approved by the North Central Association and with his guidance and assistance in many areas we took state championships in basketball and football for the first time in school history. First and foremost his aim has been to provide us with the best possible of educational programs and experiences to prepare us for the future. For all of the students who have profited by his excellent 16-year administration we thank him and we gratefully dedicate this, the 1971 La Reata, to him. 3 5 6 Roxanne Denise Leamons James Lee Cunningham Wanda Lee Rhodes Merideth Lynn Romo Jon Brian Warner Benny Alcaida ( Connie Robles Heredia Debra Janine Neider Leonard Phil Zeyouma 9 Emperatriz Toboada Dawn Hatch Olan Merl Dunn Jr. Ronnie Arnold Simms Wanda Ann Melton 10 Dan Ellis Mathis Penny Sue Fischer Donald Glen Parris Faye Annette Becker Henry Lee Shortey Jr. 11 Luann Marie Ryon Jesse Kyle Vindiola Michael Patrick Baker JS? The Class of ‘70 began preparation for this day when they first enrolled as freshmen. As they progressed toward graduation, they became intelligent young adults ready to take their place in the world. As Seniors, they set an example for the under—classmen in leading the school in hard work, SPIRIT and DEDICATION toward their school. As they take their diplomas, they are ready for the world and the world is ready for them. A TIME FOR US KING MARVIN McCABE AND QUEEN KATHY WILLS MARVIN McCABE, KATHY WILLS CROWNED PROM ROYALTY . . . TRACK 70 The 1970 Track team had a season they would like to forget, as they did not win a single track meet all season. They placed second in four meets, third in two and fourth at the B-West meet. At the B-West meet, the team qualified the mile relay team of Hal Clause, Mike DiFilippo, Terry Holt, and Frank McCowan for the State Track meet. Also qualifying for the State meet were George Bottorff in the 880 and Brian Warner in the shot put. Overall, we had a dismal season but there were a few records broken. The first to fall was the mile relay, the new time being 3:37.2. The second to fall was the 220, which Terry Holt set at the Tri-State meet at Blythe. 80 above: High Jump and Broad Jump; Mike DiFilippo, Terry Holt, Dana Scott, Steve Robinson, and Pat Carnahan. above right: Shot Put and Discus; Brian Warner, Mcrving Scott, Andy Ng, and Roger Wilson. below: Mile Relay; Terry Holt, Mike DiFilippo, Hal Clause and Frank Mc-Cowan. below right: Distance Runners; Mark Brennan, Hal Clause and George Bottorff TOP; front row, left to right; Jimmy Cunningham, Leonard Zeyouma. HOLBROOK EDGES PARKER, 61-60, IN SEMI-FINALS Parker’s hopes for a State Basketball Championship in their first year in Class A went up in smoke as the last second ticked off and the Parker Broncs were behind by one point. Parker took a 23-14 first quarter lead but Holbrook battled back in the second to tie the game at the half, 37-37. In the third quarter, Parker tried to come back but at the end Parker tired. During the fourth quarter, Parker stayed close but could not close the gap. Down 61-53, they came back during the final two minutes but couldn’t do it with the final score 62-61. Parker’s determination for a State Championship is evident by the rebounding of Steve Robinson, left, the play-making of Miner Webster, center, and the shooting of Rick Lancaster, right, against Holbrook in the Coliseum. 90 A LANCASTER MAKES ALL STATE MARDEN, CLAUSE AND LANCASTER MAKE ALL-CONFERENCE RIGHT: Rick Lancaster-All State First Team, All Tournament First Team, and All Conference First Team.
