JOHNSON Dedication This edition of the BISON has been dedicated to Mr. William Bennett Johnson, as a small measure of recognition for the great work to which he has dedicated his life. We feel that we have all benefited greatly as a result of Mr. Johnson’s untiring devotion to this school’s progress and improvement. It is this type of devotion to duty that we magnify, and esteem as symbolic of the tradition which has characterized Parker over a period of fifty-two years. This dedication is made in recognition of what we choose to call high ideals, which we uphold and cherish. We sincerely hope that high ideals will continue to be characteristic of Parker’s students and graduates whenever they may be found taking their places in life. MAIN BUILDING PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE STAFF Dear Students: Parker High School h symbolic of friendliness, cooperation, high scholastic stand ards, efficient student government and many other worthwhile attainments. It has been built around standards set for you by those who have gone before and by you for those who come after. Through associations with your school mates and Teachers, 1 hope you have become aware of the importance of loyalty and cooperation. You should remember to be successful in lasting friendships and in making life's adjustments; you must have these and other desirable character traits. The age in which wc live is one of speed and acceleration. You are fortunate in that you have health, happiness, ambition, aspiration and opportunity. Some have used the opportunities offered through the school for self-betterment, others have yet to awaken to their full potentialities. But all of you with the assets you possess should seek further prosperity and security, using to the greatest extent possible your talents to be better citizens—physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. Respectfully yours. .G. R. C. JOHNSON, Principal VVV Ml DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE The creation of this Annual involved much hard work. I heartily commend everyone who had anything to do with nfaking it possible. This publication. I am sure, will promote good public relations, provide a pictorial record of the school's activities and preserve ones memories of his school days. My message to students, which I was asked to write, is simply this: The people of Birmingham believe in education. They have invested much money in your education. Let your life and work today and in the years to come be positive proof that investment in the education of youth is the wisest and best investment that any city can make. As you daily live and work in this direction I bid you God’s speed. Sincerely yours, c. W. HAYES Director of Negro Schools MRS. WAYMOND MATHERSON Secretary PICTURE NOT AVAILABLE MISS l„ M. School Pn nim Sri A Bi $u |i Furuaril Hmnnnn W unltl j i,irn, Curtis Bogan FOOTBALL Although hurt by graduation, coach Major Brown and his associates, Messrs. Edward Jenkins and Carlton Wells, made a powerful team out of a squad of Freshmen and a few holdovers from the last year’s team. The Herd roared victorious through nine opponents and only lost to David T. Howard High of Atlanta, Georgia. This loss came early in the season after two victories. This defeat, however, did not hurt the players mcrale because the following week they went on to beat back the strong running attack of Carver High of Gasden, Alabama. On returning home they continued the winning streak and defeated Booker T. Washington of Montgomery, Alabama. Dunbar High of Bessemer, Alabama, Central High of Louisville, Ky., Decatur High of Decatur. Ala. And then came the game of the year with our cross town rivals, Ullman High. The Herd succeeded in trouncing Ullman by a score of 34 to 6. Because of Parker’s outstanding record all season, the team was selected to play in the annual Health Bowl Game and defeated Wcnonah. The followii g is the record of the Thundering Herd for the 1951 Football season.
