Coach Mr. Bjorneberg, Christensen, Michele Crist, Stacy Leininger, Tricia Rhonda Friese, Paula Viet, Iennifer DeVries, Tonya Petersen, Linda Merrill, Plucker, Ierrice Nelson, Coach Pheasants Refuel For Another Season By defeating Canton, an A school, the Lady Pheasants vroomed to the end of their regular season on a victorious note. Under the new leadership of head coach Mrs. Christensen and assistant coach Mr. Bjorneberg, the girls compiled a 6-16 record. From the beginning to the end of the season, the girls experienced many close games. Iennifer Plucker with the help of her teammate Linda Merrill, assist's leader, scored 237 points, while Linda had 57 assists for the season. Rhonda Friese, the leading offensive rebounder with 56, was always there to give the Lady Pheasants another try. On the other end of the court, Ienni- fer Was high defensive rebounder with 107. As the season came to a screeching halt, the four seniors Jennifer, Linda, Rhonda, and Tricia left their tracks behind on the PHS court, but the under- classmen will return to fill their shoes. 64 Girls Basketball , if fi Receiving conference honors were Linda Merril1-Honor- able Mention and jenny Plucker-All Conference. Advancement to Success Opening the year with a young team, the Pheasants began to work hard under Coach Hoover's instructions. The season began with a cou- ple of losses but throughout the year, the Pheasants kept on im- proving until they reached the fi- nal games, Districts. The team had proved themselves as they had won 10, lost 9. People were actually excited about the team and they were becoming very ex- citing to Watch. The biggest highlight of the season came on January 20, 1987 when the Pheasants took the floor against the Harrisburg Ti- gers. After the game was over the Pheasants had not only come away with an easy victory, but also Coach Hoover's 500th career Boys Basketball victory. It was an honor that this team was very excited to get for the coach as he became the only coach in South Dakota to win 500 games. The second highlight of the year came a week later as they were given the opportunity to play at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Pheasants ended the sea- son with a 11-11 record, a fourth place finish in Districts, and a third place finish in the confer- ence tournament. Mike Iefferis fueled the Pheasants with 418 points with an average of 19 per game and 9.8 rebounds per game. Mark Christensen got into the ac- tion with 13.7 points per game.
