SWEETHEART The night ot March 1 was filled with a glimpse of an ticlpotion as to who would become the new Sweetheart and Marshall at the annual FHA and FFA Sweetheart dance. Setting the mood was the band Crossfire from Vermillion. When it came down to the tlnal moment former Marshall Russell Buseman crowned the new Sweetheart Tricia Duncan and the new Mar- shall Eugene Even. Atter coronation the rest ot the evening was filled with loud music and lots of dancing. FFA also served popcorn and pop tor refreshments. This year In Oral interpretation things were better than ever. There were almost twenty participants in speech. The advisor was Mrs. Clarke Hoover. The local contest winners were: Cheryl Merritt-Humorous, Rita Husman-Drama, Amy Chicoine-Oratory,l Michelle Almond-Serious interpretation of Drama, and Mark Salter and Tricia Duncan-Duet Acting. These people all advanced to the Dlstrlct Contest. Many schools participated ln the District Contest and we got a glimpse ot Parker's talent when they tied with Freeman Academy as winners ot the District Oral ln terpretatlon Trophy. Next came the Regional Contest, and with that came more winning. Michelle, Trlcla, and Mark all received superiors and the chance to attend the State B Oral Inter- pretation Contest. On Friday, November 22-23, Mrs. Hoo ver, Mark, Tricia, and Michelle attended the State Contest in Huron. Michelle was to give her piece that evening. Husman piece from the play AnatasIa, She re celved a Superior rating and a trophy. On Saturday morning, Mark and Tricla performed their duet. They did a piece from Nell Slmon's Plaza Suite. They re celved a superior rating and a trophy. What these people accomplished is something tor themselves and their school to be very proud ot.
