DRILL TEA M This year, under the fine leadership of Mrs. Froiland, the drill team performed at one football game, and three basketball games including a special Christmas routine to Jingle Bell Rock . The other songs used this year were She Bop , Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go , and We Got the Beat . Early morning practices were at 7:30 a.m. and also right before show time: they sure paid off when the crowd clapped after a successful performance. New members this year were: Tamra Munkvold, Diane Johns, Stacey Lawson, Carol Merritt, Jerrice Nelson, and Kammy Ostrom. Brandy Loewan was alternate. Oral Interpretation was very strong this year. In fact, sixteen people competed under the direction of Mrs. Hoover. These people competed in the areas of dramatic prose, humorous prose, oratory, poetry, and interpretation of drama. Five people: Michelle Almond, Tricia Duncan, Kim Schnabel, Rita Husman, and Mark Salter competed in district competition. From that group, Michelle Almond advanced to regional competition. Regional competition was held at Augustana College. There Michelle competed against people from schools such as S.F. O'Gorman, S.F. Lincoln, and S.F. Washington. Michelle advanced once more. At Aberdeen, she competed in the stater competition, where she gave her poetry piece entitled Patterns Michelle came away from the state competition with a superior rating and a trophy.
