Eight years later, in September, the Junior High part opened with three grade seven classes and two grade eight classes. In the first year grade sevens had Ind¬ ustrial Arts and Home Economics. In order to join the junior high and elementary sections, the library was moved to a ' new location. It was where the hall now joins the elementary and junior high sections. The new library was established in what is now roam 37. Parkdale is fortunate to have wall murals and silk hangings in the corridors. Parkdale is noted for its Christmas and Spring Concerts, assemblies, farewell parties, inter-scholastic teams, yearbooks, P.S.A. meetings, tree-plantings, getting acquainted teas, fashion shows, industrial arts displays, sports days, broom ball games and the bicycle marathon. Parkdale students are ' especially noted for their behavior in and out of the school. The continually clean and shiny halls add to the atmos¬ phere of order and hominess. We are fortunate to have as our principal, Mr. Walls. Before he came to Parkdale he was principal of Mount View School. He has taught school for thirty-three years. I think we should show pride in Parkdale, as it is the tenth largest school in the city. Dalphine Green Judy Robulak Each graduating class moves forward into a slightly different social atmosphere than the one before it. Nevertheless, all classes find some pretty stable or fixed court¬ esies or social graces and accepted laws of behavior which all are expected to follow. The reputation of this year ' s class, like that of the many that have graduated before them stands in the eyes of the society that judges them, upon their acceptance and performance of certain traditions. It is not my intention to list these traditions for you but rather to stimulate your thinking along these lines with a few examples. The values you set for yourselves will receive your undivided attention. Those you accept from society and impose upon yourselves will form the Foundation of your reputation. Let ' s look at an example. An important first is found in your demonstrated respect for authority. The author¬ ity of the home, the school and the government must be recognized. Acceptance of these areas of authority frees one ' s mind to pursue with full vigor rewarding activities of whole¬ some fun, improved learning and carefree living. The rules of the home, the school and the country have been established by the pressures of society and the experiences of adults and are imposed with the deepest of feeling that they are for the good of those who must live within their bounds. To follow them is to demonstrate respect. Let me further support my point with a second example. The head of our country is our sovereign. Our allegiance is to our sovereign and country. An accepted way of expressing our pride and faith is to open and close meetings and assemblies with a tribute to our sovereign and to our country. We stand to attention without question and sing, O Canada and God Save The Queen to the best of our ability. You can imagine the reputation a group establishes for itself if it doesn ' t stand to attention and doesn ' t sing out. Don ' t let people from another country catch you in such an expression of disrespect. For that matter don ' t let anyone catch you in an action of disrespect. As a final example let me talk about the laws. Laws are made for those who are unable to control their own reason and actions. Do you wish to be classed as a member of this group? I think not. Obedience to the Laws is expected of all good citizens. True signs and reminders of one kind and another are posted to assist you in remembering the multitude of laws, obligations and responsibilities you are responsible for but these you should welcome and not be annoyed by. You must also understand and accept the fact that the officers of the law are the protectors of your lives and your property from those who fail to heed the wishes of the people. Respect for such officials is your duty. In summary I advise that the kind of respect that enhances your reputation as a son or daughter, as a student or as a citizen is that respect which you accept and self-impose and the degree of respect will be determined by the amount of the acceptance and self imposition.
