A’looking like they’re half alive Some Classmates of that year. The church is filled; the hells do peal; The sinners number ten; The Reverend Lloyd begins to kneel When someone yells, “Hey Ben!” CLASS PROPHECY “Remember me? — at Park we trained In Navy V-I2 days. I’m Musgrave, Jim — and now ordained Poor sinners’ souls to save.” “And did you hear that Brother D., Our colleague Glen Cordell, Each Sunday preaches sermons three To keep his flocks from hell?” The scene now shifts, a teachers meet Is being held this year. And schoolmarm Jones hastens to greet Her Parkite friends so dear. The first. Miss Shugart, former head Of W.S.G.A. “I’m trying desperately,” she said, “To teach my kids each day.” It wakes them up; it makes them bright.” “But here’s another plan,” Miss Jones suggests another light. “I give their hides a tan.” “Oh, you should use my system, dear,” Pipes up Miss Riley then. “I let my students drink root beer Each day at ten to ten. And Maui’s native daughter, “Mats”, Is next to offer aid. “I always keep a score of bats To hit them in the haid.” And now to “homes sweet homes” we go To spy on happy twosomes. But wait, perhaps we ' ll come to know That twos are now some “moresomes.” ’Twas Peg McHenry, only one. Then Howard made it two; “Twas three with John, their impish son. And four with Kathleen Sue. And M.A. now is Ardis L. She’s not a Burnidge now. Her kiddies’ hair she cuts to sell Short as the law will ’How. “A pansy for thought, and Laurel for fame,” Recite the cute small Frys To Mary Carolyn whose aim Is singing lullabies And then there’s Molly Johns (nee Nance) With cozy nook for two. (It’s just a tiny five-floor manse Plus farm, band-room and zoo.) Now Kaki Teener, long since wed. Has kiddies four, just count ’em. Yes, sir; four girls, and all well-fed. She decided not to drown ’em. The Swearingens have their own home O’erlooking a blue bay. Our own Mil Nickless plants the loam While Johnny makes the pay. And now the scene shifts to the lands In corners far remote Where Park’s alumna rank expands Their goodwill to promote. Here’s Walter Campbell gone afar Acquiring many a fan As foreign reporter on K. C.’s Star In the country of Hindustan. If you’ll come near, you ' ll hear the tale Of one Jane Arp, no less, WJio with the senior funds set sail And in China met success. And now to places here and yon To spy on forty-fivers Some fame and fortune’s lauds have won In jobs and duties divers. Tbe big bad wolf in youngster’s tales Was quite a frightful villain. But such a beast no more prevails Since Betty writes for chillun. Masaye of Forensic fame Debates in Congress now When “he” returned, she changed her name And took the sacred vow. Dick Webster’s quite a statesman too, A crisis he foresaw. Vice president at thirty-two He’s changed the nation’s law. We find that red head gal McComb’s Out decorating now She covers things from shelves to domes. Come, Jerrie, take a bow! Who once was heard, his tenor voice In a capella blarin’? At whose wide fame do we rejoice? Composer Bob McLaren! And Stevenson a pastor is, A small white church has he. He preaches loud ’gainst “gin and fizz” And gives faint souls the key. Clint Morrison now preaches too. See that stone church down there? ’Tis said he leads the singing too. And gestures much with care. In Carolina, Kunce began: Sbe now directs a church. While Bob G. is an “also ran,” She left him in the lurch. The tunes of many a joyous psalm In churches still persist. Of Riverside ’tis true, for Glaum Is now Chief organist. Of Rothstein can the tale be told; He learned his lessons well. For John is in the business fold Directing personnel. EPILOGUE And now you’ve seen the class who ten Long years ago did leave To mingle with the world of men Their fortunes to achieve. And Emily, that brilliant lass Who said, “1 have no plans,” Just hoodwinked all the trusting class And wed one of her fans. A member of 2-A’s “elite” A doctor did become; Yes, wifie sits in Crockett’s suite Collecting each big sum. “Berger and better planes our plan,” Says former prexy Will, The South American airlines’ man Who now big shoes does fill. Course John went on to seminar And joined the pastor rank. Took ham and cheese to India far. To feed men lean and lank. Now Betty Covey’s having fun From west coast to the east. “Y” work is spread with many a pun To the largest and the least. Remembering still that cheerful song And still philosophizing Abe Dohi sings the whole day long “Oh what a lovely morning! Orion Star Signor Pedro Is still an athlete strong. He plays with teams in Morocco And wins their praises all. And also batting balls around Is well-known chemist Pete Who for his hobby all year ’round The tennis score does beat. Elaine has gone to bright Broadway Her “child roles” bring her fame. The soldier and the sailor say She soon will change her name. When we were freshmen, Joe was here; He had a lively wit. His job is weather, storm or clear. He tells it bit by bit. Now see that church we’re drawing nigh? W ould you believe who’s there? Don Martin, pastor, rushing by To be in time for prayer. PERSONALITY KING AND QUEEN Elected by popular vote of the entire civilian student body, Dick Webster and Carol Shedd were chosen as the personality king and queen of the June, 194.5, graduating class. HEPRESEIVTATIVE ATHLETES JERRIE McCOMB, Aurora Chosen by the aurora athletes to represent them, Jerrie has proved her interest and ability in sports by earning her Park sweater. Her favorite among sports is basketball, and she has taken all-star honors in both basketball and softball. MARY HEAGSTEDT, Lucerne At the time of her election as representative athlete for the Lu¬ cerne Club, Mary had only participated in one year of athletics at Park. She captained the all-star volleyball team, and earned basket¬ ball all-star honors in this time. She has been a WAB member. CAROL SHEDD, Calliopean Veteran of many years of Park sports, Carol has captained both speedball and basketball teams, earned enough points for a Park sweater, and served more than one term as president of the Women’s Athletic Board. She has several all-star ratings. INTRAMURAL ATHLETICS With crowded schedules and limited facilities creating a handicap, the so¬ cial clubs held intramural volleyball this semester. The Orions took the cham¬ pionship in the fellows’ tournament from the Parchevard team. The Lowells failed to muster enough personnel to put a team on the court. In the girls’ tournament of two rounds, the Auroras took the championship, the Callio- peans in second place, and the Lucernes in the cellar. The all-star team beat the all-school squad in a post season set. All games played were three-game sets, the Lucernes taking the last set from the Calliopeans. Only one defeat is registered on the score of the champion Auroras. Aurora Champs: Back Row: King, Nelson, Harp, Atkins, Turner. Kneeling: Quimby, Laffoon.
