Josiah Lilly caused this graceful little granite and brick structure to be erected in the Lilly Orchard. It was originally used as a library and recital hall. When in 1931 Mr. Lilly moved into the building the early editions of the songs of Ste- phen Foster he had begun to col- lect, he named it Foster Hall. During the six years the build- ing housed the collection, more than fifteen thousand persons in- terested in the Pittsburgh com- poser ancl his work visited it, and at lease once a week, Foster pro- grams were presented in the hall. .a..,,f.,.. , W ' 9 Ffwii-f' Aififffr M 1Mi:,,igAi5:,yC.!g r :graft f ' , ,,,:,w .. , :gy 251.4-2-' , s ,, ., J 5 ,AQ 1, 2' .ffm an 1 - ,V 'KW' ,.w,gr.,1,,,a.',w ' , i 'f va, ,a ,',.1MM,L-wi' fwiwwwwmfyf-'gfizgp Q G W Q A ,,, ,x A ' Q4 'f f,.Q,Z W 'V Jq 33,,j f 'f fl' W ' ' liilv 21:9 ' A H 'L W K gnggiw' 2 ' LVM 5:1- Alf M' .f -if .M , W J 15 'W E-1w',, X gf? khwpv 'Wm' ' - 1, Z-f M1F'iP W' 'Vi ff .i w 4 ij, Q W yw' ' -1. H ig, , , , ,:Q,w 'i ' . . mii f SWK mn It is appropriate that Mr. Lilly should have given the Foster Hall collection to the University of Pittsburg. But though the manuscripts are gone, the spirit of harmony that occupied the building remains. It is mirrored in the present, school buildings, which reflect and magnify the design of Foster Hall, and in the life and work of Park-Tudor School. It seems fitting that the tag lines on the division pages should he drawn from the songs of Stephen Foster. 1, ,- v v Q A 'f5'Qii? An 8- 7 defeat at the hands of Wood's Woodchucks on black Saturday was the only blemish on the team's otherwise spotless record. The Panthers, led by co-Reichel award winners Jeff Butz and Jim Winterfeldt, opened up the season with a hard-fought 19-16 victory over White's Institute, and never seemed to look back afterward. Included in the host of teams defeated by Coach Dezelan's feisty panthers this year were Glenwood, LaLumiere, Kentucky Country Day, and Indiana Deaf School. The 47-0 trouncing of Deaf school was particularly gratifying since it was the greatest margin of victory for a Park-Tudor football team in recent memory. One more thing worthy of being mentioned, is that after the first game, the Panthers never allowed more than one touchdown in any single game. The success of this year's team was due to a total team effort, and the always encouraging advice from Joe Dezelan and his staff. Led by MVP Rob Davis, and under the great leadership of Coach Larry Treadwell, the soccer team almost won the MISC tournament and almost won the state tournament. Ironically both losses came on penalty kicks after time had run out with the score tied. In spite of these near misses in big tournaments, the team still enjoyed a very satisfying season, winning the MISC league, and setting numerous personal and team records fmost noteworthy being most victories in one seasonj. The highlight of the year had to be beating arch-rival Heritage Christian, which assured the team of a league championship. And since Heritage Christian went on to win the state championship with a record of 22-1, this victory took on special meaning. Each member of this year's soccer team can proudly say, We were the only team to beat the Indiana state champions. At least twice a week, every Park- Tudor girl goes jogging out to the hockey field for a rousing forty minutes of exercise. In spite of all the sweating and groaning, most admit that they rarely do as much outside of class. Some daring ones even stay after school for a taste of varsity athletics and a chance - sometimes - to play other teams. This year met with difficulties, as the only scheduled game was canceled owing to untimely alterations on the field, so the varsity team remained inactive. But the Red and White and class games were more popular than ever. The Whites had a memorable moment for they beat the Reds for the first time in over ten years. And led by an enthusiastic group of veterans, the seniors overwhelmed all opponents and proved once more that wisdom and spirit will always defeat the strength of youth. The unusually small team, led by senior tri-captains Steve Baker, Steve Elrod, and Jeff Yingling, clawed their way to a 15-8 record. Among the host of teams defeated by this year's Panthers were all MISC oppo- nents, including cross-town rival and nemesis Heritage Christian School. Well this year at Park-Tudor it was the Janet Kloke show. Senior Janet Kloke constantly razzled and dazzled opposing teams with dribble moves and jump shots to lead the team to their sole victory over Baptist School. Without a doubt, Janet Kloke will be dearly missed next year. Still Coach Miss Trotter is looking forward to the coming year because Janet Kloke is the only graduating senior, and the young prospects are really quite good. This year was exciting and next year should be even better. The grapplers, led by co-captains Bob Hicks and Jim Winterfeldt, found themselves wrestling more with each other, than with wrestlers from other schools. But when given the chance, they performed admirably. At the Maumee Valley Tournament, for instance, Coach Bill Browning's crew, despite numerous forfeits due to lack of wrestlers in certain weight classes, fought their way to a second-place tie, only 6 points behind champion Maumee Valley School. I might also add that there are quite a few good young prospects for next year's wrestling team, and therefore, barring snow, next year should be even better.
