BASKETBALL PARK FIVE- Park started off with a big hit this year, winning nine straight games. At the time, Park was the only undefeated team in the city. Finally we came through with a 18-4 record. Here is a list of the games Park played in the 1951-1952 schedule: Park 69, Jackson Twp. 59, Park 72, lnd. A - Tournament games. ln the four-team tournament Park came through with an easy victory, defeating Northwestern and the Elgin Academy. The team brought back to the school a hand- some trophy. ln order to keep the trophy, a school must win it three times. The boys have said that they will bring the trophy back to Park next year for a second time. John DeVoe was rated the best high school basketball player in the city. With his 31.8 points per game John was far ahead of all other players. We wish that he could be back next year. Steve and John DeVoe were chosen honorary co-captains for the season of 1951-1952. The Reichel award was given to George Downing. lt is an award presented to the player with the best mental attitude. The Park School Fathers' club donated to the Park basket- ball team new telescopic bleachers that fold up against the wall. We would like to congratulate the team on having such a fine record.

SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE FOOTBALL The Seventh and Eighth grade football team, although they had only thirteen candidates, started the season off with a bang by thumping Pike Township by the score of I8-6. The Park touchdowns in this game were scored by Phil Adler, Mike Bradner, and Steve Medios. Park lost their next two regular season games to Pike Township and Orchard School. Then they played Louisville Country Day School in the big game of the season. Park iumped off to an early 6-O lead on a pass play from Dave Duck to Duane Pritchett, but the superior amount of Louis- ville manpower paid off in the end I8-6. FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE FOOTBALL This year's team won three games from our arch-rival Orchard, while losing two contests to Tarkington Park. This was the first time a Park team had whipped Orchard three times straight. The boys were aggressive and gained much ex- perience. Coach Higgins awarded seventeen football awards to these young athletes. l l l s

Seated left to right: David Duck, Alan Johnson, Philip Whitesell, Edward Hargitt, David Young. 3 uns' gr with RESERVE BASKETBALL The reserve basketball squad, led by Phil Whitesell, Dave Young, Reed Moistner, Steve Cline, and Samps McQuiston, had a rough schedule, and not till the final three games did they ever show they were both offensively and defen- sively strong. Outside of the four first stringers, the squad was inexperienced, but everyone was eager to fill the fifth-man spot, since Cline was recalled to Varsity duty. David Duck and Jim Rose were two of the hardest fighters for this position. Midway through the season the Parksters showed that they could win even if it was in the cracker box gym of Elgin Academy. This was their first win of the season. The last two games were decisive victories for the reserve squad, and showed that the Varsity squad next year will be strengthened greatly by these boys.
