' ' ' K' I X' ' ' I1 DENNIS SNIITII Jr. Guard IOM I IIQNDLRSON Sr. Tacklc - 'K 4- V ' 4 DAVID TOWN Sr. Tacklc THE TEA ACTIO FOOTBALL REVIEW A review of the 58 football season starts with the Journey to Crosby Ironton, which the Rangers won 20 0 After .1 very hard fought first half the boys from Park Rapids ran into trouble and were penalized for more yard age than they gained The game was played in a steady downpour of rain After another week of practice, we had our first home game with our opponent being Aitkin This was a hard fought game and the Panthers showed great improvement but not enough as the V1S1tOIS won 27 O The following week the Panthers prepared for the traditional battle with Bemidji The two teams were very even and th1s was one of the most exciting games of the season It was a dog fight all the way but the Lumbeqacks finally won in the last half by a score of 20 14 Much credit must be given to the team for their very valiant last quarter rally even though it was not enough to win the game The next week the team traveled to Detroit Lakes where they played one of their poorest games of the season and lost 14 7 This game saw the Panthers being unable to do any thing right for the en tire game After suffering four straight defeats the team finally got together and played one of the finest games of the season and defeated Frazee 33 7 in the Homecoming game which made everyone happy Coach Schlattman played every boy in the game which was very gratifying to the fans After a week of very spirited practice the team traveled to Long Prairie in extremely cold weather but made it two wins in a row by a score of 13 0 The Panthers next game was with the Railroaders of Staples, at Staples, which saw the P R team fall completely apart by a score of 39 6 lt was a very disappointing game for the many fans from Park Rapids The final game of the season was played against the Wadena In dians at the local fleld After a bitterly contested game the Indians scalped the Panthers by a count of 20 13 With many returning lettermen it 15 probable that we will have a man and Anderson for they had to change boys to different positions and also to teach a relatively new system of play to the team. Guard Grant Schmaus and end Bill Bateman were named to thc Mid-State all-conference team. Congratulations to these two boys.
