On October 16, 1971 the band traveled to Fayette, Missouri anticipating a victory over 25 bands entered in the contest. After 28 weeks of hard work in precision marching on the field and in the street the band proved that the win was well deserved. The competition was tough but the band's performance was a beautiful sight to behold. Even the judges complimented the band on its great showmanship.
