The Industrial Arts Department offers instruc- tion in architectural drawing, drafting, woodwork, metals, and electronics and electricity. The stu- dents learn how to operate machines, the mech- anics in planning blueprints, welding and metal work. Some of the projects are salt and pepper shakers, lamps, and cedar chests, while some the more advanced are dressers, chairs, and night- stands. Mrs. Crystal Fteed1'i'.horthand, Clerical Practice What l've said all along is in print right here in the book! Mrs. Ruthanne Stonewall Secretarial Practice, D.E. and C.O.E. Mrs. Stonewall examines one of her student's latest assignments. Hands in position, ready, begin! These are some of the sounds heard as you walk past the typing and business classes as stu- dents peck away the min- utes at timed-writings and letters. Through concentra- tion and perserverance, typ- ing and shorthand skills are developed for possible ca- reers or merely for personal use. In the business classes, attention is directed towards consumer problems, taxes, family finance, insurance, labor, and a study of the legal procedures involved in business transactions. Office experience is gained by learning to operate var- ious machines, working in the school office, enrolling in a specified course. Mrs. Mary Foraker-Office Machines, Basic Business Mrs. Foraker is teaching in one of the new 3l'll'ISXeS. Mrs. Barbara Bucker-Typing, Business Law This class is one thrilling experience after another. Home Economics This year's Home Economics classes con- sist of three main divisions. Each of them in- cludes cooking and sewing and then a special nine-week course. Home Ec. I students study child care, Home Ec. ll students study interior decorating, and Home Ec. lll students study marriage and the family. The teachers, Mrs. Houx and Mrs. Howell, also donate their spare time to sponsoring Park HiIl's FHA Chapter, an organization related to Home Economics. Mrs. Judith Howell-Home Ec. I 8 III Mrs. Howell arranges fruit in a centerpiece for the Teachers' Banquet. Mrs. Juanita Houx-I-lome Ec. Drivers' Education Beware the Student Driver! Nearly every student looks forward to the day he will receive his license, and the Drivers' Education course prepares the student for that day. This class instructs the student in driving skills, parts of the car and their functions, traffic rules and regulations, and develops a sense of social responsibility. The course provides both in-class and in-the-car instruction and aims at keeping traffic emergencies and accidents to a minimum.
