■■;, I ' ■Yr tv ' ' D ' - ' a i Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. This quotation has been Park Hill ' s motto this year — a year of great strides — for we have come closer than ever to the high ideals for which our school stands. You, the students, have displayed a genuine interest in the way your school has been governed. Your receptive attitude toward new ideas and your cooperation with faculty and administration have been proof of a new maturity, not only in you, but also in Park Hill. Participation has been the vital element of the success of this year; and pride has been apparent everywhere — in the classrooms, the halls, and on the play- ing fields. Apathy was the locked door, but enthusiasm has proven to be the key. It is to this spirit of enthusiasm that we dedicate the 1967-68 Tmyian. It is our sincere hope that this new spirit will become a tra- dition at Park Hill. The Troyian Staff ' Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. It has been a year in which you have ini- tiated and carried out many student-centered activities and projects that have brought a new spirit of cooper- ation and enthusiasm to our student body. By your splendid example, you have laid the groundwork for further development of student leader- ship in our school. I also wish to commend all members of the student body for their cooperation in their intellectual venture at Park Hill, and urge each student to complete his education so that he will be better qualified to live and work in the complex society of the future. , I am encouraged by the greatly increased interest in education throughout the country, a concerned interest that needs to be extended and magnified for, education, as never before, is basic to our national security and the general welfare of mankind. My best wishes follow you as you move on to higher goals. Russell G. Jones Russell G. Jones Superintendent In today ' s world, one often hears that the key to survival lies in the moral and spiritual values of its people. One also hears that the world is doomed be- cause of a complete breakdown in the value system of its people — particularly its young people. However, as I observe and talk with the youth of today, it is my observation that their value system in- a moral sense is stronger than that of former generations. This is par- ticularly true in the area of concern for one ' s fellow man — and it is in this area that morality has practical, real implications. In this respect, I have the utmost confidence in those of you who represent the future. May you always have the best of luck, and I would encourage you to continue the development of a value system that is oriented toward real concern for your fellow man. James J. Harmon James J. Harmon Assistant-Superintendent BOARD OF EDUCATION Mr. Donald F. Engel President Mr. Harry M. Box Vice-President Dr. S. Lloyd Allen Member Mr. Robert B. LeBow Member Mr. John F. Leamon Member Mr. William Olhausen Member Mr. Harry R. Mayo Board Treasurer Mrs. LaDel Stephens Secretary to the Board Mr. Harry J. Miller Director of Business Affairs V Mrs. Beth Buckaloo Direnor of Food Service Personnel ADMINISTRATION My congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 1968. You have passed through a phase of your life that holds fond memories for most of you and now you have been launched further on a continuing journey through life. We hope for you that a goal has been set, so that you have a direction. The opportunity to pick up the tools you need to move toward this goal has been provided. If you have taken advantage of the opportunities you have the means of solving the prob- lems life will hold for you. So as you leave the life of high school behind, you commence a new life. Then, life will hold no challenge that cannot be met and you will know a life of dignity and meaning not measured alone in material gain but in service, satisfaction and peace of mind. Oscar F. Mussman Principal Oscar F. Mussman Principal Congratulations to the young men and women of the 1967-68 Graduation Class. You have developed abilities and learned skills during your years at Park Hill, and now are ready for the oppor- tunity to use them in setting the direction of your life. Thus, the real test of your education begins. The extent of your success will be determined largely by how well you define your purpose, concentrate your ef- forts toward your goals, and persist in your efforts to achieve them. Studies of the lives of great men reveal that these were the major sources of their success. Whatever your endeavors, my best wishes for your hap- piness and success go with you. ' As Park Hill ' s AFS Americans Abroad candidate, I spent last summer living with Mauvikios ' family in Thessaloniki, a northern Grecian city. For fifty-six days, I lived with this family, eating what they ate, doing what they did, in general, and attempting to learn their language. But an AFS student ' s experiences goes far beyond the mechanics of living within a foreign society. With fa- miliarity comes understanding, and the longer I stayed, the greater my understanding, respect, and love for the Greek people grew. I would like to thank the American Field Service, the students of Park Hill, and all the members of the community for their support that made my trip to Greece possible. My only regret is that more students cannot participate in the program, for only with an ever-increasing number of partici- pants, can the ultimate goal of the American Field Service be reached. That is to Walk together, talk together all ye peoples of the Earth, for then, and only then shall ye have peace. Sincerely, ' Carl M. Park Hill is a great name to me because you gave me the best welcome for an Exchange Student. It is the place where I learn many things for the future. Eveiyone has been so nice and helpful to me, I can never forget. In the depths of my soul I will always carry the love and understanding that my family and all of you at Park Hill have given to me. These words perhaps best describe the Park Hill marching band. In striking red and black uniforms, this organization marches during half time at all home football games, providing spectacular performances that have no equal in northwest Missouri. In the past, the band has won trophies in both parade and field marching. This year, it marched during half time at home game of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Park Hill Symphonic and Concert bands con- sistently give outstanding performances for the commun- ity. This year they also played for the Missouri Music Educators Association Convention in Columbia, Missouri. At contest in Maryville, the band earns the highest possible ratings and standing ovations from the judges. Contest soloists and ensembles are drawn from these groups. The Park Hill bands have worked hard to achieve a high degree of perfection, and have deservedly won a wide reputation of excellence. 119 OUR BANDS Whad ' ya mean, an M sharp?
