THELMA BATT MER During our high school years, there has always been one individual who would listen to our prob- lems, serious or otherwise, and help us solve them. She was always patient, sympathetic and under- standing. In addition to being a busy, able secre- tary to Mr. Fleming, she always found time to help all who asked her, and her cheery smile helped to brighten the day for all. To this wonderful friend and advisor, Mrs. Thelma Battmer, we, the Troyian Staff, lovingly dedicate the 1957 TROYIAN. THE TROYIAN STAFF MIS. S SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Such Hard-working Juniors I! Them were the good old days, Jan. -:f ess, V , W,.,X, it as L There's a wheel in every crowd! Hilarious antics during Freshman Initiation. The Senior Class of 1957 began their high school days as eighth graders at Park Hill. They have the honor of being the only class to attend Park Hill for five years. Frwhman Initiation days were hilarious and will never be forgotten. The Sophomore year was high-lighted by a picnic on the Cottrell farm and an assembly honoring Mr. Jankowski, our sponsor. This Is Your Life, was the theme of the assembly in which the entire class participated. The main events of the junior year included the Prom and the Junior Play, The theme of the Prom was Paint the Town Red, and the play title was Seventeen is Terrific, Accomplishments of the senior year were many. Five seniors were club presidents, the R-5 news editor and the T royian co-editors, The proceeds of the magazine sale, sponsored by the senior class, were used in the purchase of a section of a scoreboard to be installed at the new school building, The senior play, Gaslight was a success. Members of the cast included John Stegman, Louella Dunagan, Jenny Quimby, Nathan Spain, and Julie Schnabel, who did a fine job replacing Karen Howe at the last moment. Senior trips to Jefferson City, Columbia, B.O,P,, and Wyandotte County Lake were enjoyed by many seniors. The seniors won a ooke party by purchasing a larger percentage of annuals than any other class. Senior Breakfast at Municipal Airport, Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises rounded out this full year. MA.. As youngsters, they learned most of what they needed by meeting and solving daily problems with their parents. But in the highly dynamic social and economic order of today, the youth is lost who does not have formal schooling, as much and as good as possible. Along with the individual, society also suffers when the educa- tion of youth is neglected. fd Russell G. Jones Superintendent PRINCIPAL MARVIN E. FLEMING Principal THE PRINCIPAL SPEAKS What are you doing about National Defense? You have grown up during a time when Nat- ional Defense has become an American bywotd. I am sure you are thinking about Atom Bombs and guided missiles, but I am thinking about our number one line of defense -- education. Our Country will remain just as strong as its schools. The schools will remain as good as you, the future voter, want them to be. Schools are the responsibility of every citizen. If we shirk this responsibility, we will pay dearly in terms of freedom. The freedom we now enjoy has been purchased for us by the blood of thousands of G. I. 's in two major wars. Diligence in our effort to build good schools seems a small price by comparison. An informed nation is a strong nation. Do not forget this duty in the years ahead. mwfis Marvin E. Fleming Principal MRS. THELMA BATTMER Secretary to the Principal 1 1 2 2 s MRS.
