Football got underway on September 6 when the Cards fell to Hurley 6 to 7. On September 17 our Homecoming Queen, Lola Franke, was elected. The Cardinals chalked up their first win, September 20, by defeating Mosinee 12 to 6. Homecoming! The Cards, rated the underdogs, showed real spirit by de- feating the Phillips Loggers by a score of 12 to 6. The night of the 27, the whole school enjoyed dancing to the music of the Footwarmers at the Home- coming Dance. OCTOBER On October 1 and 2 the Senior class pictures were taken. Cards lost heartbreaker to Tomahawk 0 to 7 on October 4. School closed October 10 for Teacher’s Convention. Fo. tball season came to an end on Octo- ber 18, as the Cards went down, 0 to 25, to the Medford Raiders. An interesting and enjoyable assembly was presented by Mr. B. B. Zimmerman, on the 21. 5 Seniors took the Merit Scholarship tests on the 22. The G.A.A. sponsored a Sadie Hawkins on October 25. Many interesting couples turned up!! NOVEMBER November 1 ended the first nine weeks! Oh-h-h those gyades! On November 2 the cheerleaders took first place at the cheerleaders confer- ence. The football players and their fathers had a fine time at the football banquet November 7. Seniors took the employment test all day on the 14. Basketball season opened on November 19 Cards beat Lakeland, 57 to 33. DECEMBER Christmas Concert was held on the 19. Spanish Club held their Christmas Party in the Home Ec. room on December 12. “if Cards beat Medford by a score of 62 to 57. On the 13, the students enjoyed an assembly on sand painting. The Home Ec. Club made Christmas or- naments and candies for their bazaar. JANUARY On January 10, the School Orchestra supplied the music for the band dance . On the 17, the Letterman s Club put on a swell dance after the game. Cards whipped Phillips on the 24 by a score of 82 to 50. Seniors sponsored a dance after the Tomahawk game the 31. FEBRUARY A very enjoyable band concert was put on by the Phillips band on the 3. On February 11, the local Forensic con- test was held. The sophomores sponsored a Valentine dance on the 14th featuring the Foot- warmers from Phillips. The Cards swamped Phillips 73 to 40 on February 21. The seniors sponsored a dance after the game with the school orchestra pro- viding the music. The Patterson's put on a gymnastic pro- gram that was benefited by all on the 26. MARCH On March 3, 5, 6, and 8, the regional tournament was held at Park Falls. The league Forensic Contest was held at Tomahawk on March 11. The band enjoyed a trip to Medford on March 12. The State Basketball Tournament was held at Madison March 20, 21, 22. On March 26 the students enjoyed a very fine assembly program put on by the Smythes. The District Speech Contest was held at Hurley on March 28. APRIL Everyone enjoyed the Easter vacation which was April 4, 5, and 6. The Solo-Ensemble Festival was held at Medford on April 11. The P.T.A. Style show was held in the gym on April 12. 57 T.-.e Sophomores went to Trees for To- no-row camp at Eagle River, April 14, 15, and 16, The Juniors put on their prom Evening in Paris on April 25. The Merit Scholarship tests were tak - en on the 29. The Senior Banquet was held on May s. The students went to the State Music Festival at Madison on May 10. The students enjoyed a very fine as- sembly program by Don Lonie on May 15, The Conference Track Meet was held here May 17. The second track meet was held on May 24. The entire student body chose Lola Franke as Queen for Homecoming which took place on September 27, 1957. Her attendants were Rita Their, Beverly Werth, Coralee Seelow and Barbara Lofthus. The victory over the Phillips Loggers was celebrated by the Homecoming dance, Goal-Post Gallop , during which Queen Lola and King Larry Morrical were crowned. A queenly queeni 60 Beyond Blue Horizons was the theme of the Junior Prom of the class of 1958, the first to be held in the new gymnasium on May 17, 1957. Many couples danced with King Jim Kronberger and Queen Jean Radlinger as the swayed to the music of Russ Nelson’s orchestra. The entire setting was one of fantastic mysteries of the seas.
