PRIDE PRIDE: excessive self-esteem; high opinion of one’s own importance or worth; undue sense of superiority; personal dignity; that of which one is proud. In the beginning, Park Center was only a school. A mere building with all sorts of modern equipment, a staff, and possibilities unlimited. All it needed was the students, and the students came. They came from all over, most from Osseo. School started, the teachers taught, the students learned, but there was something missing. They needed a common bond, something to hold them together, something to believe in. Who knows when it happened? Maybe it happened the first time PC won a football game, or maybe it happened with the first chord the band played or the choir sang, or maybe it happened the first time something was learned in the classroom. Who really knows, but it was there. The unity, the common bond, the purpose. PRIDE- but not just pride- PIRATE PRIDE, and it spread like a rash throughout the student body, and even the staff. People were proud of PC. They were proud of their athletic teams, proud of their music department, and proud of their academic achievements. PC slowly developed a reputation among the other high schools. We were looked up to, and we still are because we have that one special element- PIRATE PRIDE. No other school has it and no other school could. It’s the students and the staff that created this pride and it will be the students and the staff of the future that we hope will carry on this pride until PC closes it’s doors for the last time. ks 5
