It's DtUGHTTUL... It's IDEUCl005... Xrs 'DGLOVELV... “The stage is set, the band starts playing. Suddenly your heart is pounding. Wishing secretly you were a star.” These are lines from “The Grand Illusion” by STYX, and it describes how the audience of Anything Goes felt as the curtain opened for each performance. If you saw Anything Goes during it’s November run, maybe you remember some of the highlights. And even if you weren’t in the audience, you may have heard some pretty strange things about this musical. It’s unlike any other musical Park Center has ever performed. The characters include a gangster, a slinky nightclub performer (who is part evangelist), four “angels,” an English gentleman, his fiance and her ecentric mother,, a stock broker and his boss, a flapper who chums around with the gangster, two Chinese gamblers accompanied by a missionary, an entire sailing crew including the captain, plus a shipload of passengers. To put the plot in a nutshell, it’s a boy meets girl type of story that takes place on a 1930 love boat: boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy gets engaged to girl. Girl meets up with old flame. Old flame arranges for sexy lady to entertain boy. Old flame falls in love with girl. Boy falls in love with sexy lady. And everyone lives happily ever after. 30
