It involves a Jewish family and it’s traditions. Tevya, the father and master of the house, has five daughters. These daughters decide to break tradition and marry whom they choose, instead of who Yenta. the matchmaker, chooses. The directors this year were Mr. Ed Anthony and Mr. Terry Nordberg, with Jane Clark as Student Director. Mr. John Hamilton was the Orchestra Director. The cast, the directors and the crews put in many long hard hours that brought forth a very successful production. presents F3DDLER OR TfjE J ROQF 1 i RaVEtHBER 11,12 $ I III! The play, “A Dollar” was a satire on materialism. Mr. Christenson, the play’s director, said, This year the students really worked hard and really deserved the second place trophy which they received.” All in all, this year’s one-act play was a total success and it will be around for many years to come at PC. 26 The Cast Comedian ... They visited six elementary schools in the district and one out side of the district. The production lasted about an hour. The cast and crew consisted of 18 PC students and very few props. The lack of props made the role playing very demanding. These Park Center students were up to the task. In short they made the tall tale of Jack and the Beanstalk very real to the children. Many of the students that watched the play thought it was the best play yet. The proof of this was shown by the many letters of appreciation and inspired drawings of the cast sent to their advisior Mr. Hermann. 'There are many ways to sum up the job the cast and crew did but the most often heard was fantastic! 29 Concert Choir FRONT ROW: Mary Heer, Judy Sugimura, Ionise Rankin, Eva Remiarz, Wendy Whalen, Jane Clark. Behind their leader and advisor, Mr. Rasmussen, they had two major fund raisers. The Christmas dance was a smash, with the singing Christmas cards topping off the holidays. The Sophs would liked to have planned more activities, but there just wasn’t enough time. Front (L to R): Vicky Feigum (Pres.), Mari Kerkow(Sec-), Mary Brey (Treas.). Senior Class Cabinet “The Class of 1978 is great ...” This has been the motto of many ’78 students including the Senior Class Cabinet. The Cabinet is a group of selected students who assist and work with major activities of the senior class and of the school. The class officers are: President Brenda Anderson, Vice-president Vicky Felt, Secretary Lisa Johnson, Treasurer Cindy Ledac. The motto was proven to be true when Homecoming 'll resulted as a success. They aided the elderly, had a picnic for the physically handicapped of the Trevilla home, and sponsored the blood bank. NHS members showed their scholarship, leadership, character, and service by running around singing valentines on Valentines’ day and serving Pepsis and popcorn in the concession stand during basketball games. The members also learned such interesting things as how to cut snowflakes and how to paint fence posts when they made the decorations for Sno Daze. It is the student voice to the faculty and administration to help aid the school in any way possible. They helped the students by keeping them informed about all important information. Sometimes this information was about open lunch or a new program. The 32 classroom members and 30 associate members worked on projects like Student Government Day, Mini Course Afternoon, the CEAP drive, and student tutoring. The members were always busy organizing, setting up, and putting together new ideas that brought forth better things at Park Center. 45 Kevin Binger, Jodi Martin. Dan Cofield. Tery Rolek. The goal of each debater is to become a member of the National Forensic League, a national honor society for debate. The great value of membership is that it trains students to think on their feet and thus become more influential as leaders of society. KPCI broadcasts before school, during lunch, and after school. 48 SPANISH CLUB In its first real year, the Spanish Club had a membership of just five people, plus their advisor, Mrs. Swanson. The purpose of the club is to have fun while learning the language and customs of the Spanish. The students have visited Spanish restaurants, as well as participating in various activities at school. The club gives the students excellent opportunities to use their Spanish in something outside of a classroom atmosphere. French Club is an organization designed to bring French students closer together. By activities such as sleigh rides, parties, sno-daze, and the annual foreign language Olympics, French students can meet new people who share their interest in learning a new language. Besides meeting new people, French Club is a place where the pressure of the everyday studying can be removed. Club gatherings usually include a time for students of different years to complain over how hard the material they are presently working on is, and how they’ll never understand it. After a while though, everyone starts to think: “Hey I guess I’m not the only one who can’t catch on right away!” This usually results in those people renewing their efforts to learn their favorite language. There were only two returning members on the team from last year — Paul Bay and Bruce Lebus. The team was coached by Tom Tuzinski, a graduate of PC, who had played on the team when he was in high school. The captain of the team, Terry Gourneau (12), was an asset to the team, but unfortunately he moved to North Dakota just before Christmas. The team elected a new captain; sophomore Scott Johnson. Several Seniors played Varsity competition for the first time and discovered it a challenging and frustrating experience. The team learned that sports is more than just a “good time”. Repeatedly practicing skills and playing tough competition each week, many girls made promises to succeed and improve significantly by next year. The lessons learned this year should help next years team meet those new challenges and keep their promises. For a team that was suppose to be without a hope for a Championship the Pirates again proved to be champions. The record of 8 1 was blemished only by an early loss to Cooper. The team fought back the rest of the way to tie for the Lake Red Championship and missed a shot at the playoffs by one computer point. The season was highlighted by a homecoming victory over Osseo (19-6) and an upset of powerful Richfield (14-6). I’m going to beat you, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha! A Cross Country girl is not just a regular girl. She put up with alot more than a regular girl: a ten mile jog in the sun and heat, a three mile run in the mud and rain, a coach who gives 30 minute “pep talks” (but they love him all the same!), the whistles, the dogs that love to chew on ankles and self torture they really enjoy! Why do they go out for Cross Country? “I like the coach and enjoy meeting people from other schools.” said a varsity runner. Cross Cross Country is a challenge to the most improved runner, Lenise Rankin. One runner said, “It’s a part of me” and another said she has a “Feeling accomplishment” and that there’s “Something special about the people.” One runner summed it up by saying “Cause it’s alot of fun.” The girls ran 30-60 miles a week. This added to their “broad base”, which is the total of all the miles they have jogged. The broad base was Coach Gary Dovels’ system for coaching this year. Dovel said that this year he finally realized that girls can run as far as guys. The broad base helped the girls to a 4-4 Conference record. They took 1st in the Park Center Invitational and 3rd in the Matterhorn Invitational. The Junior Varsity took 1st in the Red Conference Division and 5th in the Region. Steph Stong was All Conference and Kathy Johnson and Carol Bradbury were All Conference Honerable Mention. Run, run as fast as you can you can't catch me nobody can. Oh, really? Another reason for the success of IM Football is the comaradery and competitiveness the kids get from this sport. To sum up the season Dan Klukken said “I didn’t mind losing to such a good team. The girls worked very hard on fundamentals in practice and with the leadership of captain Sandy Reiling they won some hard-fought victories including an exciting 39-35 decision over Cooper and a school record of 60 points against Richfield. 1977-78 was characterized by performances that superceded our greatest expectations at times and fell far short on other occasions. The team was hurt by a early season injury to co-captain Randy Moberg and a broken thumb suffered by Joe Hartung late in the season. Nevertheless Hartung was able to lead the conference in rebounds. MARY 217 Story of the Year The year started with a pepfest, where we said the Pledge of Alliegence for the first time in high school. By the end of the first week, the teachers were already pouring on the homework. We had our first football game and dance that Friday. The next Monday we had off for Labor Day and everyone took one last big breath before we plunged into school full swing. Just one month later was the 1977 Homecoming, “Harbor Lights”. We beat Osseo in the football game and there was a big turnout at the dance. The musical, “Fiddler on the Roof’ was put on in November and it was a great success. By December 22 everyone was ready for vacation. How quickly the year went. 1978 started out with Sno-Daze barely three weeks into January, and before we knew it singing valentines were going around. March started out, with Finals and a new trimester. For the seniors it was their last one. Easter came and went with just two days of vacation. Prom (“Your’re in My Heart”), Senior Banquet, and the Athletic Banquet all flew past. Then, before we realized it, graduation was over and school was out.
