Runners on your mark ... get set the gun cracks the air and the Park Center Girls Track Team is on their way. The air is tense as the high jumper approaches the high jump, she takes off and clears the bar. The team breathes a sigh of relief and breaks into cheers as she takes first place. Although the team didn't have an impressive record, they improved greatly this season. They didn't win a conference meet, but their spirit and determination kept them going to place sixth out of eighteen schools in the District Meet, far ahead of schools they had previously lost to. The team sent five girls to regions, more than they have ever sent before. The team was captained by Maureen Fourre. Track events were coached by Bev Anderson, field events by Fee Meyer. Coach Anderson says, “We had a young team that has a lot of potential.” 6
