The invocation was presented by the Reverend Timothy spoke of the rapidly changing times and the need for higher education. Vladimir Hampl was valed Ladden, Dr, Peter Van de Water, the commencement speaker, and Timothy Wright was salutatorian. ictorian 1 L Go placidly amid the noise andhaste, and remember what peace there may be in silence, as far as possible with- out surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you.compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser per- sons then yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however hum- ble; it is a real possession in the changed fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery, But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass, Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings, Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world, be careful, Strive to be happy. Max Ehrmann 1927 byMax Ehrmann, All rights reserved. Copyright renewed 1954 by Bertha K,. It is a com- bined effort of students, teachers, organizations, and townspeople to make one unforgettable night. The end result is a show that makes everyone happy. The audience loves the skits, which are written by the students putting them on. The students love doing the skits. This year's Variety Show had several new acts incorpo- rated into it. There was a song and dance group and many hilarious one-act plays. Even Ernie and Bert took time off from Sesame Street to come to the show! The proceeds went to the foreign exchange program. i yi ‘ y TUVERLET ALS CLE TORAR SAO, % ¥ ie P) . fF oe se i a ees s Stes . _ et ae a a - = = Yen ee o FTES thie, — ims 120 Do You Remember . licorice sticks, dress up, the tooth fairy, fluta-phone lessons, getting sick on your first school bus ride, the annual trip to the Seaway, taking a nap in kindergarten, milk and cookies, Christmas tree chains, eating paste, jump ropes, hula hoops, match box cars, water balloons, spit wad fights, paper airplanes, two cents for every pop bottle? barbie dolls, red rover, taking your Oreo apart and eating the middle, first, skate boards, scavenger hunts, boy scouts and girl scouts, learning the seat drop, duck duck goose, wool clothes on September 1, missing the bus on purpose, your first pair of pointed -toed shoes, thinking that homework was a treat, wetting your pants? squirt guns, little league games, the cubby hole, punch bug, you owe me a coke, cat's cradle, dots, tick-tack-toe, playing house, fishnet stockings, your first high heels, the band SMOKE playing for every school dance? sitting on the town hall steps, hitch-hiking to the movies, bowling for the first time and getting only gutter balls, being out after the street lights came on, soaping windows and riding the fire trucks on Halloween, rolling toilet paper around a certain person's house, your first date, frisbees, being scared of BIG Mrs. Miller, warball, pajama parties, birthday parties, going steady for the first time, J.
