There were four regular meet ings e The Association sponsored Open House during Education Week in November. This was well attended this year. Principalk Message I Etienne de Grellet wrote: UI shall pass through this world- but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do, let me do it now, let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.n This quotation well expresses the ideals of a service in a democracy, which Lincoln called Wthe last best hope of earth.n The educational system in our nation is designed for training in democratic living. This concept implies that young people must learn to accept responsibility and carry out that respons- ibility to the best of their ability. Therefore, every opportunity to serve others should be wel- comed, because in helping others we serve the welfare of the whole group and also contribute to our own good. At the end of the first half of the season we rested in second place with a 4-2 record. Salmon River Central led the league at that point with a 6-0 mark. A mid- season slump cost P.H.C.S. some very important games by close margins. During this period we lost to Brushton by 5 points after leading them by 6 points at the third quarter mark. Next we were defeated by Moira 56-53 when a late Parishville rally fell short. The end of the league season found us tied for fourth place with Moira and Brushton. A special playoff at St. Lawrence Central School was necessary to determine the last tournament playoff spot. Salmon Central with a ll-l record, St. Lawrence Central 8-4, and Chateaugay Central 7-5 were already assured of tournament positions. we defeated Moira 64-60 and Brushton 58-50 to earn the right to continue in the tournament held this year for the first time at the Clarkson Gym, in Potsdam. Salmon Central took our measure on opening night 50-35 although our boys played a fine floor game. St. Lawrence defeated Chateaugay in a thriller 55-54 while Salmon River Central claimed the tournament championship with a 57-42 win over St. Lawrence Central. Salmon River then went on to annex the Sectional championship as well with a 64-50 win over Harrisville. P.H.C.S. scoring for the year was headed by Reggie Berrett with 336 points. Don Petty followed with 273. David Wells had l 2, Bob Chevier 127, Ronnie Planty 105, Jim Curry 39. Other players with points scored were Harold Phippen 8, Dick Corbin 7, Ronnie Baldwin 6, Jay Curry 6, Burt Chevier 4, Gary Snell 1, Riger Hoyt 1. Danny Conger and David Conger were called up from the J.V. squad for the last four games. The team field goal average for the year was 375 and the foul goal average was 555. Ronnie Planty had the highest field goal average with 502 followed by Reggie Barrett with 412. Don Petty had the best foul goal average at 801. He made 133 of the 169 foule shots awarded him. He was followed by Ronnie Planty with 635. CThese figures do not include the last four games of the season.J P.H.C.S. scored a total of 1097 points while the opponents made 1174 in 19 games. Reggie Barrett averaged 18 points per game. Don Petty followed with 15 per game. David wells was the teams leading rebounder on defense being particularly valuable in this department. 353 fouls'were called in favor of P.H.C.S. and 312 against us. X 1'f'4 , . They have won 43 of the last SO games they have played against all competition and 27 straight league games. This may well be a record of great significance in New York State and is, in all probability, an unprecedented record for our own league.
