Dedication After 36 years of teaching, coaching, and administrative work, Mr. William Reed, Assistant Principal of Paris High School, retired on June 30, 1979. Mr. Reed graduated from Western High School in 1932, and continued his education at Kentucky State University to earn a B.A. degree majoring in History and minoring in Physical Education. He then earned his Master’s degree in administration from the University of Kentucky. The education William Reed earned was soon put to good use. He taught at Western High School from 1937 to 1943 and from 1949 to 1954. The job of Principal was offered to him in 1954, and Mr. Reed worked at that challenging position until 1964. when Western High School was integrated with Paris High School. Mr. Reed became Assistant Principal of Paris High School in 1964, and he spent many hours of his time working for the benefit of the students right up to his retirement. Mr. Reed is perhaps best known for his successful coaching career. As Western’s basketball coach, he brought his team to second place in the State basketball tournament. But the determined coach was not to stop there. His team won the National Title in Nashville, Tennessee the following year. Our Assistant Principal has also been active in the community. He holds a position in the Paris City Commission, the Planning and Zoning Board, and a State Agricultural Advisory Committee. Mr. Reed is also a member and elder of the Seventh Street Christian Church. He and his wife, Wil- lanna, have three children-Jan, Kimberly, and William F. (Sonny). It is with great pride and sadness that we let Mr. William “Chief ’ Reed go. His work has been and will continue to be an inspiration to those who will follow him. 17 It is with these thoughts and remembrances that the Annual Staff dedicates this book to Mr. William Reed.
