DEDICATION The Yearbook Staff dedicates the 1973 Parisian to our Community—the City of Paris and the County of Bourbon. Through the years you have shown your concern for us and our education by supporting all our activities. You have attended our open houses. You have advertized in and bought our publications. You have been loyal to our sports programs whether we were winning or losing. You have attended our plays, our concerts and our celebrations. You especially sup- ported the Paris High School Band during the summer of '72 when it traveled to Vienna, Austria, and brought honor to us all. You have loaned us money for our further educations; you have provided us jobs for our occupations. We are truly in- debted to you, the Community, for helping to make us become responsible citizens, and we promise to show our gratitude by being loyal to you and bringing honor home to you—our Community—the City of Paris and the County of Bourbon.

 — PARISIAN Presented by SENIOR CLASS of 1973 Parts High School Parts, Kentucky Life is a building process. Like the intricate web that the spider works so painstakingly to construct, each of us must strive to erect a better and more productive life. Every individual is like a single strand in the web, standing alone, feeling independence, yet reaching out unfailingly in search of new ideas. At the same time, all of us are interwoven--taking. giving, sharing, realizing an involvement with each other. It is this combin- ation of being distinct, self-willed human beings while understanding and interacting with others that makes life so delicate and so precious. The timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream. But if in your thought you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all the other seasons. And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing.

Mr. Paul W. Polly is currently serving his ninth year as superinten- dent of the Paris City School System. His first two years at Paris were as principal of the high school. A na- tive of Whitesburg and a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, he re- ceived his bachelor of arts degree in 1955 and his Masters degree in 1957. Mr. Polly is the person directly responsible for the tremendous ad- vances in the Paris City School Sys- tem. It has been through his efforts the comprehensive rating and the ac- credidations have been obtained. Through his constant desire for the finest and safest school system, he was awarded a Kentucky Colonel commission for having the only school system in the state having no fire deficiencies. He was president of the Central Kentucky Education Association in 1968-69 and served as a member of the CKEA Board. Mr. Polly Honored by City School Board of Education He was one of seventy school su- perintendents presented a Leadership Award by Dr. Robert Martin, Eastern Kentucky University. He was elected president of the Central Kentucky Superintendent's Council in 1964-65 and has been se- lected to fill this post for the 1973- 74 year. He has been president, vice-presi- dent and a member of the board of directors of the Paris Rotary Club. Mr. Polly and his wife, Cleta, are admiring the portrait presented him by the Board of Education. The portrait of Mr. Paul W. Polly, superintendent of our Paris City School system is now hanging in the Fine Arts Center, along with past superintendents --thanks to the Board of Education. Mr. Edward H. Sutherland, vice-chairman of the board, made the presentation on behalf of the other members of the board in appreciation of the many accomplishments of Mr. Polly as superin- tendent. The building programs carried out have been many and varied. The building of a new elementary school, a new fine arts center, an addition to the Southside Middle School, the remodeling of a residential property to serve as administrative offices, the remodeling of the Southside gym lobby and an addition to the field house at the athletic field. The athletic field has taken on new dimensions with new bleachers, a chain link fence, gravel walkway, a quarter-mile track and a complete renovation of the playing field. Academically the Seventh Street Elementary and Southside Middle Schools have been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The Paris High School has been awarded a comprehensive rating, the highest academic rating a high school can obtain, by the State Board of Education. The purchase of school buses for children being transported to and from school has also been introduced by Mr. Polly. There have been many edu- cational contributions by Mr. Polly to this system, and with this portrait the board has recog- nized and honored him.
