June Dedication We, the Senior Class of 1966, dedicate this yearbook, as a token of our gratitude and respect, to Miss Zerelda Noland for her years of service to the Paris City School system and to its students. As a teacher, she has done much more than merely instruct us in the structure and function of English. She has given us the principles by which to live, the inspira- tion necessary to fulfill them, and the knowledge to make them successful. We are grateful to her not only for her never ceasing help during school hours, but also for the help and instruction provided in the endless hours, which she has freely given in the afternoons and evenings to those participating in speech activities. We respect her as a teacher because she respected us as students. im ENGLISH SPEECH Reading maketh a full man, Conference a ready man, Writing an exact man. (Bacon) 6 LANGUAGES C’est en forgeant qu’on devient forgeron. (T. Roosevelt) SOCIAL SCIENCE We must treat each man on his worth and merits as a man. We must see that each is given a square deal, because he is entitled to no more and should receive no less. (T. Roosevelt) HEALTH P.E In all regions of life, Exercise strengthens capacity. 12 COMMER CE Always at it wins the day. 13 HOME ECONOMICS He is the happiest, be he king or- peasant, who finds peace in his home. ( Goethe ) SHOP Debate Team John King Zerelda Noland Bette Goodman Perry Wornall Coach Cynthia Hollis The debate team is composed of students who have an interest in current events of the world and who have had experience in other fields of public speaking such as analysis of public address, original oration, or extemporaneous speaking. It also calls for students who are willing to use their free time in research work and practice. This year's team composed of four senior members under the direction of Miss Zerelda Noland has been quite suc- cessful. Winning first place at Breckinridge Training school, they later came in second at the Henry Clay High school Speech Tournament and at the Convington Latin Debate Tournament. They also made it to the finals of the regional tournament. 18 Art Club President-Jo Ann Courtney Secretary-Larry Graves Vice-Pres. - Jane Peterson Treasurer-Judy Clark Mrs. Art Walters Sponsor The Art Club was organized in 1964 when art was first introduced into the Paris High curriculum. It is an organiza- tion made up of students who take first and second year art. Mrs. Art Walters is the sponsor and also the art teacher. There are four main officers who lead the group in constructive work. Throughout the year the Art Club has performed many services to benefit the school. The art students decorated for several high school banquets and social events. They gave dances, sold candy, made posters, and had several money-making projects. With this money they made a trip to the Cincinnati Art Museum, which has become a grand finale in the spring of the year for all students taking art. The Art Club not only promotes an appreciation of good art among the art students but also to the school and community. 19 Speech Club The Speech Club is an organization whose purpose is to stimulate interest in public speaking. This club is open to any student in grades nine through twelve who is interested in participating in speech work. This year the Speech club took an active part in various speech contests and in return, Paris High School has gained recognition for superior individual work. The officers of the Speech Club for the year of 1965-66 are: James Culbertson, president; Carolyn Baber, vice- president; Cynthia Hollis, secretary; Jimmy Coleman, treasurer. NFL The National Forensic League is an honor society for students active in the various speech events. Twenty-five points are required before a student is eligible for membership. These points are earned by participating in the various events during the year. Drill Team The Paris High Drill Team, an organization formed in 1962, is composed entirely of girls from the high school. Tire girls are chosen after trying out before judges. This year there were twelve regulars and two alternates. The sponsor and Drill Team director was Miss Millie Ryles, who is the Paris gym teacher for the elementary grades. This group of girls worked out precisioned patterns of marching. They performed at several of the basketball games and were in parades on various occasions. The purpose of the Drill Team is to promote group co-operation. They practiced on their own time and their policy was hard work. The girls in the organization benefited from their practices as well as their fine performances. 21 Hi -Lites Mrs. Cleta Polly Sponsor HI-LITES STAFF Co-Editors Bette Goodman Suzy Davis News Editors Judy Clark Beth Worthington Feature Editors..................................... Paulette Tate Sandra Jordan Activities Editors.................................. Irene Zuniga Monica Barnes The Paris High Newspaper Staff is composed of Juniors and Seniors. There is a Senior editor and a Junior editor. This is done in order that the Juniors will gain ex- perience in management and be able to take over in the Senior editor's place the next year. The HI-LITES this year consisted of the major news of the school. There were monthly articles about the various clubs and their activities, information on the sports events, and special features on the different departments. One special attraction which especially interested all Seniors was the review on the college of the month. The newspaper is a non-profit organization and is self-supporting. This means that the supplies used by the staff are bought by the newspaper. The PARIS HI-LITES has been one of the most enjoyable and beneficial assets to the students and faculty this year. Future Homemakers think that helping to make happy homes now and in the future is the most important thing that youth can do for democracy. The Paris High Chapter of Future Homemakers of America has been very active this year. Membership is entirely voluntary. Corsages were sold at the homecoming football game to help raise money for club projects. A Hobo party was held in the fall honoring all new members. A point system was set up this year to encourage all members to be active. The annual Sweetheart Dance was held in February, with Lee Bell and John Norman reigning as FHA Sweethearts. FHA Week was celebrated in March with a worthwhile activity being carried on each day of the week. Twenty-five dollars was raised for the FHA Scholar- ship fund. [{waaii SJlSigjj t V k President-Linda McFarland Miss Betsy Woodford Vice-Pres.-Kaye Speakes Sponsor Secretary-Treasurer-Cynthia Hollis The continental atmosphere is brought to life in the Paris High School system by the French and Spanish Club. This club is made up of first and second year French and Spanish students. This year the members tried enriching their knowledge of the two languages by: listening to talks given by several people who had visited the countries of France and Spain, looking at films and slides on the subjects, and playing games in the French and Spanish languages. Miss Woodford, the sponsor, is also the French and Spanish teacher. The club is a recognized benefit to the students and the school. The French and Spanish cultures live on in the spoken language, and also in the students who study the languages and the cultures. 24 Latin Club President-Jerry Allen Secretary-Mar ilyn Frye Vice-President-John King Treasurer-Jo Ann Courtney Miss Gilbert Lavin Sponsor The warm Mediterranean climate is brought vividly to view by the Paris High Latin Club. In the spring the members spread the Roman influence by putting on a Roman banquet. Each member dressed in a Roman costume trying to represent some famous Roman scholar, mythical characters, or one of the Roman deities. This year the members had varied programs in connection with either the Roman history or the Latin language. The members viewed films, performed Latin plays, and told fortunes. Each grade from the tenth to the twelfth took turns in preparing the programs, as has always been the custom. Those who take Latin in the tenth through the twelfth grade may be members. The Latin Club tries to promote the study of classical literature and culture, and the effects of Latin on our own language. 25 Beta Club President-Betty Goodman Vice-Pres. -Perry Wornall Secretary-John King Treasurer-Cynthia Hollis The Beta Club is a non-secret, achievement, service organization for students of senior high schools. The first purpose of the club is the promotion of citizenship, scholarship and leadership. Its aims are to co-operate with the administration of the high school in forwarding the school programs and to cultivate a desire for a more abundant life. The Paris High School Beta Club is one of the oldest and most cultured clubs in the state. This past year its members attended the state convention in Louisville, Kentucky. One of the club's biggest projects was supporting the Blood Mobile and helping in the fund drive. Another service was the sponsoring of a College Night and a Career Night. In all ways the club has tried to live up to its motto--To lead by serving others! 26 Thespian Club Pat Hawkins Jimmy Coleman Marilyn Campbell June Martin Ronnie McMaine Darlene McKinney Coach Roger Morefield Mimi Sadler James Culbertson Patty Copeland Ben Basone Kathy Sadler Linda Harney Bobby Burton The National Thespian Society is a nationwide program with troupes located throughout the United States. A monthly magazine, Drama- tics is published by the National office which reviews various troupes and their productions. The Paris Thespian troupe is a sporadic child of the well established Speech Club. The 1965-66 school year is the first year that it has operated as a separate organization. The Thespians produced 'Sure as You're Born' for the student body. 27 Whoopers The 'Whoopers' is the pep organization of the Paris High School. The club forms the cheering section at all sports events. They create enthusiasm by holding rallies, displaying posters in the halls, and sponsoring dances after the games. Trophies were bought by the club for all the basketball players. Officers are: Sidney Tate, President; Sandra Jordan, Vice-President; Paulette Tate, Treasurer; Kaye Speakes, Secretary. The sponsor is Mrs. Alice Kidwell. 28 worn Mary Louise A1 verson, Mary Margaret Kenney, Toni Watson, Nancy Speakes, Joyce Davis. Kathi McClain, Carolyn Coleman, Joy Thornbury, Elizabeth A Iverson. There will never be another twelve like them. It has been a time of concentrated study and planning for the future, a time of maturing in thoughts and actions. It has been a time of forming lasting friendships and life-long habits. It has been a time of triumphs and disappointments. Through all these experiences we have formed a foundation on which the rest of our lives are to be based. As lasting proof that we have faithfully completed our task, we accept our high school diplomas with joy, with sorrow, with apprehension. We are joyful because we have successfully reached one mile-post in our lives. We are sorrowful because we must leave the security of old friends. We are apprehensive because we must start out on an unknown path in our lives. However, holding fast to our knowledge and memories, we now take our first step into the future. 74 Seniors JERRY ALLEN DONNIE BADGETT JOYCE ARNOLD DAVID BANNISTER CAROLYN BABER GENE CAROL BARLOW 75 MARY CLAY BENTON JOE BOWMAN 76 RAY BERRY Seniors BEN BASONE LINDA SUE BRATTON MONICA BARNES BRINDA CLARK JAMES CULBERTSON 78 DANNY CUMMINS DUDLEY CROUCH JO ANN COURTNEY MARILYN CAMPBELL REBECCA DOWNEY EMIL COOK BENTON DAY MARILYN DAY PERRY WORNALL 79 JUDY CLARK WMnMJULMmgBmmm PAMELA FEEBACK CHARLENE JACKSON 80 DWIGHT DOTSON WANDA EARLYWINE LARRY EVANS NICKY FLETCHER PAULETTA FITZPATRICK MARILYN FRYE WARREN FOSSARD CAROLYN FOSTER CHERYL FRYMAN 81 LARRY GRAVES HARRY HARRIS JEROME HENDERSON BETTE GOODMAN PAT HAWKINS JOE GREER MARGIE GRAY SUSIE HALL DREW HEWLETT CYNTHIA HOLLIS BRENDA JOHNSON DENNIS HINKLE 83 RAYMOND HOPKINS MINERVA JOHNSON RICHARD ISHMAEL SANDRA JONES 84 EDWARD INSKO MARILYN JONES JERRY JEFFERSON KEN KENDALL 85 LINDA MC FARLAND HARRIETTA LONG LARRY JOLLY STANLEY JORDAN DORIS LUCKY JOYCE MACK JOHN KING JANICE MANN 86 STEVE LEWIS LIBBYE ANN MITCHELL JAMES LONG LINDA MITCHELL WILLIAM LONG ALICE PELFREY ANDREA MORRIS RONNIE MACK MARION MC CARTY 87 MIKE MATTINGLY HARRISON RANKIN JANICE REED JANE PETERSON 88 JOHN NORMAN CONNIE PROFFITT STEVEN SHARON BERNICE RICHARDSON JUDY SHANNON ALEX SHIPP SUE GAY HARLAN REYNOLDS 89 KAYE SPEAKES 90 MARY WESS BILLY WAUGH SUSAN TAYLOR PAULETTE TATE JANE WILLIAMS GWENDOLYN TRUMBO SIDNEY TATE RAYMOND STURGILL PRISCILLA WEBB BARBARA WALKER DONALD THOMPSON 91 IRENE ZUNIGA NO PICTURES RICHARD AYERS DARNICE BADGETT PAUL BIDDLE RENE TREVINO JAMES CLEMONS DANNY MACK JOHN RANKIN 92 Class of 967 President Sandra Jordan Vice-President Gale Wells Secretary Nancy McClure Treasurer Glen Culbertson Class Officers Marsha Alexander Ricky Alexander Ronnie Banta Jamie Barr Danny Bell Doug Bell Barbara Bennett Sallie Jo Benton Dickie Bishop Paula Blake Becky Blake Beverly Blankenship Ronnie Boaz Darryl Bolling James Bradley Emily Bratton Phyllis Britton Judy Brunker Stanley Buchanan Diana Burke Diana Burns Linda Carpenter Vikki Christopher Charles Clark 94 Juniors BmuwI Linda Clark James Clough Frank Collins Gee Gee Criswell Francine Crumbie Glen Culbertson Suzy Davis Marsha Dotson Ronnie Dunn Freddy Fields Tony Fields Cynthia Finley Mike Gaunce Jim Gray Teresa Henderson Mary Hopkins Brenda Hudnall Jimmy Insko Cheryl Johnson Debbie Jo Johnson Thomas Johnson Sandra Jordan Estrellita Kemp Rosemary Kitchen Larry Link James Lin ville Larry Lucas Sue Lucky Brenda McAllister Donnie McCarty Nancy McClure Naomi McCord Ronnie McMaine Dorothy Mack Thelma Mack Charles Mann Stanley Mattox Linda Miller Vernon Miller Paula Mitchell Howard Myers Gary Ormsby Arnold Pelfrey Leona Peters Larry Porter Shirley Reed Donnie Riggs Juanita Robinson 95 Juniors Leonard Russell Bill Seltzer Judy Showalter Barbara Smith Christy Spies Marsha Spivey Ronnie Stanfield Mary Sunley Bobby Thomas Elmer Thomas Ronnie Toadvine Judy Trevino Debbie Tubbs Ann Vickers Connie Washington Ray Watkins Gayle Wells Charles Williams Jo Lynn Williams Max Williams Sims Wilson Beth Worthington Bonnie Worthington Gene Yocum 96 Class of 968 Class Officers President Preston Day Vice-President Nancy Speakes Secretary Lesha Sharon Treasurer Barry Barnes Michael Abner James Allen Morgan Allen Earl Arnold Robert Baber Roy Baber Sylvester Badgett Barry Barnes Lawrence Berry Charlotte Bills Carol Bishop Dale Blake Palma Bolling Randolph Bradley Doris Bramel Jeanette Brown Mary Ann Bryant Sandra Buchanan Glen Buckler Bobby Burton Ronnie Bussell Lavinia Campbell Paul Carpenter Peggy Carpenter 98 Sophomores Linda Clark Jimmy Coleman Proctor Cook Patty Copeland Eugene Crouch Norine Crumbie Joyce Davis Preston Day Tommy Fletcher Stanley Frye Vicky Fryman Juan Gaines Doug Gaunce Morgan Gilkey Kathy Goode Elaine Hall Phyllis Hamm Linda Harney Randal Henderson Janet Henson Boardman Hough Joan Hull Pamela Johnson Sandra Johnson Willetta Johnson William Johnson Janie Johnston Wayne Kendall Monte King Woody Kiser George Kissick Jerry Long Jimmy Lovell Gus Margolan Janet McCarty Sammy McCord Jewell McCoy Sally Mitchell Keller Moore Roger Morefield Brenda Nutter Billie Oldson Joseph Parker Sheila Pelfrey Joy Powell Brenda Puckett Kathy Puckettt Diane Reed 99 Sophomores Mary Ray Sue Robinson Rita Rogers Kathy Sadler Miini Sadler Fletcher Scott Lesha Sharon La Manda Smith Keith Sparks Nancye Speakes Vernon Stillwell Mike Sunley Rick Sunley Thomas Tate Kenneth Thomas Rodney Thompson Janice Tipton Steve Tubbs Linda Wagoner Toni Watson Bobby Weigott Donna White Larry Whitt Ralph Tobin Sara Trevino Mary Ann White Eva Williams Tom Williams Stella Wilson Helen Woods Kenney Woods Sam Zuniga 100 Ninth Grade J.
