The Goliad Massacre followed a week later on March 26, l836. The Texans, desirous of revenge, com- pletely overcame the Mexicans at San Iacinto on April Zl, 1836. The San lacinto monument on the battlefield of San Iacinto stands as a tribute to those gallant men who fought there. Thistbeautiful monument, engraved and covered with golden cream-buff sandstone, looks upon Texas from a height of 570 feet. lt is indeed a fitting memorial to those who gave us our mighty State.
