Uur Extra-Curricular Hcilviiles Students not Paris High School lind for their choice hesides the fifty-two alliliated credits a lull schedule ot' extra-curricular activities. ln tact, one will find almost any field of endeavor, including the theatrical, journalistic, athletic, literary, agricultural, and domestic. One ol' the most important ol these activities is the clulps sponsored hy the dillerent departments, These clulas hold regular meetings, presenting laoth social and instructive programs. Each of our foreign languages sponsors a clnhg namely, French, German, Spanish, and Latin. These tour active language cluhs are old and well-organ- ized. - Qur science department is well represented hy two splendid cluhs, the Biology Cluh and the Cen- eral Science Cluh, which have done much to in- crease scientific lqnowledge. There are many other cluhs which help to lur- ther the interest of the students in school worlc. For instance, there is the Speech cluh, which pre- sents such fine plays in assemhlyg the F. F. A., a cluh which advances the hoys, knowledge in tarm- ingg the Snapshot Cluh, which promotes interest in photographyg the Hi-Y, which creates good fellow- ship among the hoysg and the X-Cello cluh increases the girls' understanding ot the home and its proh- lems. The coveted National Honor Society surely stimulates interest in scholarship and character. Gur extra- curricular activities also cover the lit- erary field. Each year a group of contestants from our high school matches its lcnowledge and slcill with that of the schools of the State in the annual lnter- scholastic League contests. There are contests to suit almost everyoneys ahility. For instance, there is the Tournament Play, Ready Writiiwg, Boys' and Girls, Declamation, and Boys, and Girls, Debate. Not only do these contestants spread the reputation ot' Paris High School throughout the State, hut hy their tireless worl: and elvtort. they learn the liner Page 8 points ol' writing and spealqing, which they can use to advantage in later lite. Another phase ol this all-important lvield ol? ac- tivities is athletics. For the past tive years the Wild- cats have put out powerful teams in almost every sport. There is the loothall squad, winner of the district lor the past two years, the strong haslcetlnall quintet, the district-winning tennis team, and the fine traclc and lqield team. ln each one ol these sports there is also a B squad lor the smaller and less experienced hoys. For those hoys who do not care to enter one ot the ahove sports, there is a well- planned physical education program. There is a similar program For freshman and sophomore girls. Our school helieves that organized athletics is a very important part of every school hey and girlis education, for it not only huilds up onels hody phys- ically hut improves one,s moral character as well. For those who are interested in music, Paris High offers a full schedule, consisting of a choral cluh, a hand, an orchestra, and also credit courses in music. Our school is luclay to have such a splen- did hand as those famous Blue Blazes to represent it, as well as the excellent Choral Cluh, which has loeen so popular with the students this year. Al- though not so well lanown as the hand and choral cluh, the orchestra is a talented organization and provides fine training for a future musical career. Last hut not least in our long line ot exlra-cur- ricular activities is the pulalication of The Owl, our yearlaoolc. Each year a staff made up entirely ol seniors, with the help ot underclass assistants, is privileged to puhlish this annual. Not only do we enjoy this taslc, hut we also gain untold lcnowleclge in the fields of journalism and commercial husiness, which will undoulntedly prove useful in the future. From this hrief outline we hope you may see the hroad field of activities which Paris High School has developed lor its students, and in a small way will he shown the valuahle training olvlwered every stu- dent in addition to classroom worlc.
