ff if if Uur School Utfers Hou In its curriculum fifty and one-half credits including courses from vocation- al agriculture to English literature, Our students find no difficulty in selecting courses that fulfill the requirements for any vocation that they may choose. If a foreign language is considered, the student has four years of Latin, two years of Spanish, two years of French, and two years of German from which to choose. Each language is represented by a club which is open to and enjoyed by the students of each department. The -only subject that is required all four years is English. Literature, grammar, and composition are given during this time. Six thousand five hundred and forty-two books and forty magazines are provided for the students in our library to facilitate study in all departmenlts. In the mathematics requirements are general mathematics, algebra, and plane geometry. Trigonometry, senior algebra, and solid geometry are electives in this de- partment. Each year awards are given in math for those having an average of ninety-five and no grade below ninety. The .first year a felt letter is given, the sec- ond year a bronze letter, the third year a silver letter, and a. gold letter is the award for the fourth year. Composing our science department are the following: general science, biolo- gy, chemistry, and physics. The biology and general science classes both have clubs to further the interests of the respective subjects. Early and modern European history, world history, American history, Texas lnstory, civics, and economics comprise the Social Science Department. Seven teach- ers conduct more than twenty classes ln this department. Valuable training for the business world is received by students in our Com- mercial Department. Typing, stenography, general business training, and bookkeep- ing are offered in this field. Included in the Industrial Arts Department are a variety of subjects, such as liberal arts, mechanical drawing, manual training, and laboratory of industries. Not only the essentials of speech but also the directing, acting, and writing of dramas constitute the Speech Department of our school. Vocational agriculture, one of the newest courses in the curriculum, teaches the boys every phase of modern farming from cattle raising to planting and harvest- ing crops. Future homemakers are given the very best training possible in our home economics classes. Foods and clothing are the subjects offered in this field. Music is a universal language understood by all students and enjoyed lby manly in the four years of studies. The famous Blue Blazes have spread the fame of our school wherever they have performed. The glee and choral clubs and the orchestra are other interesting courses offered in the Music Department. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, therefore, our physical educa- tion instrulctors have developed a well-rounded athletic program. These subjects are the ones presented to the 1239 students of Paris High School to further their gains- in their quest for knowledge. Page 9
