On April 8, 9, and 10 the Paris Players presented their annual spring musical. This year they presented Oliver, the story of an orphan boy who learns the art of pickpocketing and then finds his real grandfather. Melanie Bailey, one senior Drama Club member and a veteran member of the musicals offers these reflections of Oliver. Early rehearsals were difficult for everyone, but finally after a few words of encouragement from Mr. V., the cast got on track and performed superbly. This year’s performance was not only the last for the seniors, but also the last for Mr. V. It was not until after Sunday's performance that the cast knew about Mr. V.’s resignation. If we had known, the last performances would have been harder and more cherished to everyone involved. Newcomer to the stage Brad Wegner will be remembered by all for his amazing acting ability. Hopefully Billy Marlowe and Andy Keys did not corrupt him too much. The one goal Mr. V. had before each play was to instill in each person the love for theater. I know personally that he was successful and I hope the others also now have the same love for theater. I would like to thank Mr. V. on behalf of the Paris Players for his belief in and dedication to us. 22 Spring Musical

May Fete — a time when the underclassman girls work and rehearse months in advance to get out before hundreds of friends and family members and dance like never before. For the senior girls. May Fete is a time to dress up try to act sophisticated, smile nervously and then shed a few tears. Senior court member, Roxie Drake, has many fond memories of May Fete. Every year before May Fete I was nervous and excited at the same time. The dances went through my mind right up to the moment the lights came on ana the music started. But this year was different. Although I had waited four years for this night, waited to dress up, waited to be introduced, I was a little sad. This was my last May Fete. Instead of dancing around, and giving pep talks as in past years, we just told each other how nice we looked, fixed hoops and teased hair. Seeing the freshman girls run onto the floor full of excitement and bewilderment reminded me of my first May Fete. I was so scared, just like these girls, but as soon as the music started all signs of nervousness were stripped away and we had a great time. Unfortunately, the dance was over too quickly. My thoughts quickly turned to the last May Fete that I danced in, The Little Old Lady From Pasadena, was so much fun. All of us dressed like grandmas screaming and running around, it was funny just at the thought of our grandmas acting like that. The grand finale was my favorite this year. Seeing all the underclassman girls working together, doing their best in our honor was pretty special to me. Even though probably half of the girls did not know the other half and most of them are not friends with each other, they were able to overlook all the past difficulties for one night and have fun. The 1988 May Fete is one of fond memories that I will always cherish. This years theme was Lost In the Fifties Tonight. This song was sung by Billy Marlowe in honor of the queen, the court, and the senior girls. Amy Payne was crowned queen by first attendant, Jan Rousch, and presented the traditional present by second attendant, Brittany Dunn. The senior girls and the audience enjoyed an evening of up beat tunes from the 1950 s. Fun was had by all.
