We Dedicate This Book To Mr. Gibson and Mr. Giesler Educators In the True Sense of the Word “The Chief’ as he was called by many of his colleagues, Mr. Don Gielser was a master teacher. His American History students learned more than just facts. They discovered that history was interesting. Mr. Giesler’s dynamic lectures and his constant fairness made his class one that students remembered many years after they graduated. And, students fondly remembered Mr. Giesler: whistling down the hallways, pushing up his glasses, giving out Chinese laundry tickets, and cheerfully greeting each student. The Class of 1987 was the last class that had the pleasure of having Mr. Giesler. In the words of one senior, “Mr. Giesler also taught us courage, because despite having cancer, he gave us his best.” In February, 1987, Don Giesler lost his battle with cancer. He had been at Paris High School for 28 years, and he will be missed. Dedication 13

Some Tracks Will Be Hard to Duplicate 12 After 34 years of teaching about chemistry, and life in general, Mr. John Gibson is retiring from his post at PHS. To chemistry students, Mr. Gibson, red hair and white lab coat, was a familiar sight since he has been teaching Chemistry I and II for the last 28 years. His power tests, mind boggling though they were, left a lasting impression. Mr. Gibson says he may not know how to act the first day of school next year when everyone else starts making their ways back to PHS. He and his wife, Martha, plan to travel, though, and he would like to do more woodworking. In short. Mr. Gibson plans to enjoy his retirement. “I don’t know where the time went,” commented Mr. Gibson. “I am really going to miss the people.” The people, faculty and students will miss him, too.
