The band shared the stage at the 67th Annual Kiwanis International Convention with such celebrities as Bob Newhart. Dottie Wesf, and Norman Vincent Peale. The four day extravaganza held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, June 27-30, attracted nearly 60,000 Kiwanis from around the globe. The Jazz Band, one of over 100 international musical groups to audition, was selected on the basis of an audition tape and a personal resume of each of its members. This achievement reflects a great deal of hard work and after school rehearsal hours on the part of the individual musicians. By and large, the instrumental parts are not doubled in the jazz ensemble, thus, the quality of the group depends mainly upon the strength of the individual members. The PHS Jazz Band, directed by Joe Gill, is composed of twenty-three members who were selected through audition in October. Over one-half of the band members are Honor Roll students and Key Club members; six members plan to major in music in college. 139 PUS Drill Team Bursts lute Dance First Row; Lisa Downs. Jody Wagner.
