Without these students there would be no sports, no clubs, no yearbook — no Paris High School. We dedicate this ARENA to them — knowing that they will forever remember their Golden Days at P.H.S.” THE ARENA STAFF Qmwv dm Ojjlfjom OFFICERS Carl Wright . Tom Bridwell Mark Killion Dick Keys . . . . . president vice president . . . secretary . . . treasurer Our golden days at P.H.S. Are drawing to a close. As freshmen we were terrified; As sophomores more at ease. And as juniors were a tease. Now the senior year’s upon us; We recall good times-forget the bad. The plot of PYGMALION, a play bv George Bernard Shaw upon which the musical MY FAIR LADY is based, centers around a poor. Cockney, flower girl, Eliza Doolittle. Henry Higgins, professor of phonetics, upon making a bet with his colleague Colonel Pickering, takes on the task of making a proper English speaking lady of Eliza Doolittle. After six months of practice and hard work, Higgins decides to try out Elisa at the Embassy Ball. The audience is allowed to see all traces of the flower girl vanish, and a charming young lady take her place. However, Higgins had forgotten that there is now a problem, Eliza’s future — how she must earn a living. A fiery scene between Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle results in nothing settled. In a fury, Eliza leaves Henry’s house. Mrs. Higgin’s, Henry’s mother, persuades him to talk to Eliza. The problem is resolved satisfactorily. Even though Eliza has her future settled, her father Alfred Doolittle has risen to middle class society, and Henry wins his bet. Colonel Pickering must pay the 200 £ bet w hich lie owes Henry Higgins. All are quite happy, except Colonel Picker-ing. 133 April, 1966 was tht MON I H of the Ml SLS — Music Muses. April proved to be the month of music at Paris High School — all kinds of music — from Stage Band to Vocal music and last, a Band concert. • I Starting with the Pops” concert by the Stage Band directed by Roger Maulding, there was a variety of swing, such as My Funnv Valentine,” big hand jazz from the Count Basie era to Tijuana Brass and the Beatles. The classics were represented by swing adaptations — such as Scherazade” for orchestral work. Later in the month of April, the Vocal music classes under the direction of Mrs. Patricia McNees added An April Air” program for the enjoyment of music lovers. 134 Ensembles featuring All in The April Evening”, May Day Carol '. Listen Young Maidens” and other numbers added delightful harmony. The Mixed Chorus Sing Me a Song”. 135 The Paris Band presented the climax to the music festivities with the annual spring concert of classic and contemporary music bv march and concert composers.
