I was interested in the American and World Literature courses that I took in college and found I had the best background in English, when I decided to teach. R. D. Snead Public speaking is a subject that all students need an awareness of, and any constructive way I can build this helps to satisfy my reason for being in the field of education. Ted E. Johnson Because of my interest in literature. Ann Morton It wasn't really a choice because it was my first love and I never considered anything else. Helen M, Hightower Interest in history and literature were the drawing cards toward teaching English. This interest increases with interest in helping develop the abilities of high school students. Nelle L. Jenkins I was interested in languages and enjoyed them. Catherine Farrell Delectum est a fatis me esse raram avem. Elizabeth Kern I like all young people. I like to see students become successful and worthwhile students. The satisfaction from personal contacts with students is rewarding. Pauline Newman I chose Home Economics because I was and still am interested in homemaking and the many opportunities in different fields of work offered by Home Economics. Marian H. Yontz I have always enjoyed working with anything that pertains to the home. Mary Perisho I chose to teach Industrial Arts because this way my main interest in school. Robert E. Staley Interest. James Lawton Didn't know any better. Edward T. Day During the depression years there were few openings for new teachers. But the North Central Association was requiring to member schools to employ full-time school librarians. I had received my education at a four year liberal arts college and had a certificate to teach, so by adding the skills of library science I became a school librarian. Naturally, I like the environment of a school. Mary Dole Bryan I can never remember when I didn't want to teach choral music. I've played the piano since my first grade in school. Patricia McNees I enjoy marching! Roger Maulding I always liked math in school, and I imagine it requires the kind of thinking that best suits my personality. It is a pleasure to be able to help 26

Statements of faculty members are revealing of development of interests in chosen educational fields. When I finished high school, there was not opportunity for me to farm. I became interested in teaching Vo-Ag in high school while I was in college. I hope to keep students interested in agricultural occupations and farming. Dale W. Fathauer I enjoy teaching subjects that provide practical training for future employment. I enjoy teaching them. Mary Ida Riedell I was working in business before going to college, so this field is interesting to me and, I feel, vital to our country. John H. Eggleston I liked it. Ann Brock I liked these subjects and I enjoy working with people. Angela Hahn I am very much interested in helping students learn to get along with others and preparing them for life in the business world. Jeanette Baker I enjoy athletics and working with young people. That's why I am coaching. William Neibch I chose biology because I am interested in science. I like to get students interested in working with plants and animals because they are fascinating. Laboratory exercises give the students a chance to learn about the things they read in textbooks. I like to teach driver's education because I feel I can save some lives. Daniel W. Bruner I have always enjoyed reading about persons, places, and things. Maude Elizabeth Hopper I chose to teach English because I love the literature produced by the world's great authors, particularly the great English writers. I am interested in helping students develop their creative ability in the field of writing. Louise Honnold For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed literature, art, and people. When I finally had to make a choice, I decided on the teaching of English partly because this enabled me to deal with at least two of my interests and partly because the college I attended had a better English than art department. Theodorsa Day I fell in love with French in high school and I have always liked grammar and literature. Carrie M. Shutzbaugh A better life can be reached through more understanding. Literature, and its composition, has helped me to build a deeper understanding. In turn, it is my hope to aid others in the attainment of a better life through the study of English. Virginia Allen 25

others to learn something about the subject. Albert McHenry At the time I entered college, I was told that there was a great demand for teachers of mathematics. I had always enjoyed my math classes. So it seemed logical to enter a field that I enjoyed. Nancy Sue Maple I think it was the results of many factors, but I would have to say that my high school algebra teacher had the most influence. He made the course so interesting and challenging that his students would spend thirty or forty minutes a night looking for problems that they could work extra. This one man, I must say, is the cause of me being a mathematics teacher. Paul R. Harp, Jr. I feel mathematics is very important to everyone and it presents a challenge. Ronald Doris It's a subject that's fun to teach. A P. E. teacher has an opportunity to help girls in many ways. Betty Ruyle I have always enjoyed working with young people and I like athletics. In this field we have the opportunity to do both. Donald T. Lashmet Although my major is zoology and my minors are in chemistry and government, I have always liked physical education. I like sports and like working with those who participate in physical activities. Larry Pohlman I chose to teach biology because I feel we all need to be more familiar with the intricate make-up of ourselves, and the many plants and animals around us. Bret Brown I was a pre-engineering major and decided to stay at Eastern and graduate. Chemistry was the one area that I could switch to without a loss of credit. John C. Gibson I have always been interested in science and wanted to teach students that were also interested in science. Janet Henson I feel that history and geography are interesting to both myself and my students, and an interesting subject matter for better and more enjoyable working conditions between us. Charles E. Womack Is there any other subject? Donald A. Giesler . . because I know more history than I know math, science, home ec., p.e., business, foreign languages, industrial arts, or agriculture. Ann Brown I like to teach. Charles Johnson As a student I liked to read in the fields of history, travel, and current problems. As a teacher I enjoy working with this subject material. Norma Kerrick I love all social studies and enjoy teaching them. Cassandra Wolfe 27 .
