In the fall of 1979, our lives were saddened with the tragedy of losing our dear friend, Ted Cornford. The following year, we were grieved by the sudden death of another friend and classmate, Pam Van Swol. Even though their lives were brief, the memories of Pam and Ted will be with us forever. 3 HOLD OH Hold on to youd memodle , Don't eved odget the pa t. Seniors—Norm Cook, Chris bostad, Karl Weihert and Don Waldrop emerged as the team's leading scorers along with Sophomores—Joe Baldowin and Carl Fischer. The team finished third in the Bulldog Invitational, Conference and Regional meets, and fourth in the Sectional meet. Carl Fischer was a Conference Champion in the discus as was the 1600 M Relay team. The 1600 M relay team of Joe Baldowin, Chris Bostad, Don Waldrop and Norm Cook plus Cook in the 800 M run, and Baldowin in the 400 M dash all finished first in the Sec- tional Meet to qualify for the State Meet. Team acomplishments included wins in the Bulldog Invitational, Waterloo Invitational, Re- gional and Sectional meets, and they were runner-up to Poynette in the Conference meet. Amy Tye was the Conference, Regional, and Sectional Champion in both the 1600 M and 3200 M runs. Due to a back injury, she finished fourth at the State Meet in the 3200 M and did not compete in the 1600 M run. The 800 M relay team of Sally Hanson, Cheryl Ricks, Sheila Simonson, and Darlene Houk were Regional and Sectional Champions and com- peted at the State Meet finishing fifth. Cheryl Ricks in the 100 M dash, and Sheila Simonson in the 100 M hurdles also qualified for the State Meet but failed to place. A total of four- teen girls lettered, and ten will return next season. Amy Tye was voted Most Valuable. Brenda Cook and Darlene Houk were elected Co-Captains. 41 1982 BASEBALL—Front Row: B. Payne, B. Eberle, B. Bostad, G. Howe, D. Kuhl, J. Haberkorn, R. Telvick. BASEBALL The 1982 Bulldogs were a very young team with four freshmen playing in some of their first games. They had one extra hurdle to jump since they had lost seven of their full-time starters from their '81 team. Through most of the season, the young team shrugged off their lack of experience. When it came down to the last game of the season to decide the Conference Championship, the inexperienced team fell 6-1 to Cambria. The season ended a week later with the Bulldogs losing to Mon- tello in SubRegional play, 3-2. Junior, Darrel Kuhl was awarded All- Conference Utility Infielder. The team Captain was Senior, Greg Howe, and the team's Most Valuable Player was Darrel Kuhl. '82 SOFTBALL The Varsity Softball team ended the 1982 season of competition with a conference record of three wins and seven losses, and they had an overall record of four wins and nine losses. The Squad included thirteen girls; six of the girls were returning letter-winners. They were as follows: Terri Belk, Kerry Gee, Shanna Leonard, Stacey Smith, Mary Steinich, and Lynn Swiggum. Terri Belk, Shanna Leonard, and Lynn Swig- gum received Honorable Mention honors. The team chose Shanna Leonard as MVP, and the team captains were Terri Belk and Lee Skupniewitz. The 1982 Girls Softball Team would like to thank Ms. McGraw for getting girls softball started at Pardeeville in 1979 and for all her hard work as the softball coach. The Bulldogs ai e looking forward to a win- ning season in 1983. With the loss of only three seniors, the team should be well-prepared for another successful season. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY—Front Row: T. Bourdecm, D. Beahm, B. Felton, C. Ernst, P. Bourdeau, D. Tye. Back Row: Mr. Babcock, Coach; C Hecht, T Breneman, D. Hoffmann, J. Burmester, G. Satina. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY The boys' team was the strongest in the last three years; they finished third in the confer- ence. Pat Bourdeau and Dave Beahm formed a solid 1-2 punch for the Bulldogs. They were always in the top five runners in the large meets. Pat Bourdeau led the team all year; he earned All Conference honors by placing third at the Conference Meet and missed qualify- ing for the State Meet by only 1 second at the sectional. Dave Beahm, unfortunately, suffered an injury to his knee during the Conference Meet and failed to gain an otherwise sure All Con- ference honor. He was unable to run at the Sectional which definitely hurt the boys' team score. Freshman Dick Tye was a solid No. 3 runner and should help the Bulldogs in the future. Terry Breneman, Jim Burmester, Chris Ernst, and Doug Hoffmann completed the varsity team and ran well during the season. The future looks bright as four of the top five run- ners return next year. 46 1983 SENIORS IN CROSS COUNTRY—C. Ernst, M. Eberle, T. Breneman. GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY—Front Row: B. Hoeppner, B. Skinner, M. Dawson, S. Moore- house. Back Row: Mr. Babcock, Coach; M Eberle, A Tye, J. Bahr, C. Gustrowsky. GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY The girls' Cross Country team had an excel- lent season finishing with a record of 9-1 in the overall Conference season which tied them with Rio for the Conference Championship. In the bigger meets, the girls finished first at the Portage Invitational, second at the Lake Mills Invitational, and second at the Waterloo Invitational. At the Sectional Meet, they tied with Rio with a score of 51-51, but Pardeeville won on the tie breaker. It was off to the state meet at UW Parkside where Amy Tye won in Class C and became the State Champion. CONGRATULATIONS AMY! MM The team ended their season with a third place finish at the state meet. Amy Tye and Sheri Moorehouse received All Conference with a finish of first and seventh respectively at the Conference Meet. The Bulldog football team had another suc- cessful season under head coach, Robert Bostad, and assistant coach, Rick Maass, a newcomer to Pardeeville. They opened with a home game against Princeton and got the ball rolling with a 6-0 victory, and then they went to Montello for another victory of 6-0. Then Pardeeville faced three heart-breaking losses against Randolph, 14-6; Rio, 14-0; and Poynette, 28-0. The Bull- dogs bounced back with a Homecoming vic- tory against Westfield with the score of 19-12 cfter a tremendous double-overtime battle. In the game against Cambria, Pardeeville fcced nothing but problems and were downed 17-0. In their last home game of the season, Pardeeville faced a bitter cold night against Green Lake; but tradition held true, and the Bulldogs defeated them 41-14. This was also senior night, and the following seniors were recognized: Arnie Fischer, Dan Osborn, Darrel Kuhl, Alex Dawson, and Bill Burmester. In their final game, Pardeeville beat Fail River with the score of 33-14. Darrel Kuhl scored all five touchdowns. All-Conference honors went to two Pardeeville players: Darrel Kuhl, Defensive Linebacker and Ron Thomas, Defensive End. Their many close scoring games made for a very exciting season. The Bulldogs brought the crowd alive at their sub-regional tourna- ment game against Poynette. The Indians won by a narrow score of 53-51 thus ending the season for Pardeeville. The squad consisted of: Four Seniors—Todd Barden, Terry Breneman, Bill Burmester, and Trent Caswell; Eight Juniors—Don Chapman, Eart Eberle, Tim Herrick, Rick Lawrence, Jeff Manthey, Mark Peterson, Gary Satina, and Ron Thomas; and Sophomore Mike Hinkley, who was injured all season. They advanced into Regional play after beating Green Lake 48-29 in the Sub-regional final. A close game resulted in the Regional opener against Mon- tello, but Pardeeville emerged victorious with a score of 30-28. Unfortunately, the girls couldn't come through in the Regional final; they suffered a 50-40 loss to Dodgeland. WRESTLING The 1982-83 season proved to be an up-and- down season for the Bulldogs. While losing many matches by less than three points, they showed total dominance in others. The team was hindered by the lack of a wrestler at the 105 class. The strongest points of the year were the tournaments. The Bulldogs placed second at Oakfield, third at Dodgeland, and Conference Tournaments, and fourth at the Pardeeville Invitational, being only 12 points behind first place, Waterloo. At the Conference Tournament, no wrestler placed under fifth place. Individual champions were: 98 —Kory Ehlert, 138 —Russ Jarchow. and 167 —Darrel Kuhl; Chris Ernst—126 finished second; and Bill Payne'—155 finished in third place. Alex Dawson and Jim Rivest placed fourth at 145 and 132 respectively Senior wrestlers were: Alex Dawson, Chris Ernst, Bill Payne, and Darrel Kuhl. Darrel and Bill were chosen as Co-Captains. The only senior girl on the varsity team was Ruth Thompson, second. The boys’ curling team had many new curl- ers along with six curlers returning from the 1981-82 season. The boys worked very hard their season record was one and five. Forbes. The girls took an active part in golf and were helpful in many J.V. meets. Although there weren't many girls out; they were at every practice and contributed to the team. As in past years, the golf team didn't receive much support from fans, but they kept their spirits alive by rooting for each other.
