Mrs. June Lenz DEDICATION The class of 1982 is proud to dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Ray Forbes. Largely through Mr. Forbes' efforts, the students at Pardeeville receive a high quality education that produces responsible adults. His genuine interest in extracurricular and educational activities is greatly appreciated by all students. In the eleven years that Mr. Forbes has been here, he has initiated many new ideas. These ideas have altered the way we think, the methods we are taught by, and the things we learn. It is an honor to have in our school someone who is concerned and willing to make changes for the benefit of the students — past, present and future. It is difficult for us to comprehend the full extent of what Mr. Forbes has ac- complished for our class since we were in the first grade. For all you have done, Mr. Forbes, we sincerely thank you. The Class of 1982 1 MEMORIALS TRIBUTE TO PAMELA J. VAN SWOL By - KRISTI EHLERT WE’RE 0ME HECK OF A PAIR” Oh, auch a Eong -tome now, the tun won't thine, All oven, the lott of a fniend of, mine. This past year, two people who influenced many student's lives passed away. Mrs. Ann Thurston died of cancer in July, and Mr. Richard Hoot Thompson died of a heart at- tack in December. Mrs. Thurston was a physical education teacher for many years, and later she was a substitute teacher in the Junior High and Sen- ior High schools. Mrs. Thurston showed her kindness in every way and was always willing to be of assistance to others. Mr. Thompson was well known for being involved with the TIMES as well as being an avid sports lover. Mr. Thompson and his wife ( Ally ) were awarded the Sports Fan of the Year trophy in 1980 by the Pardeeville High School. The deaths of Mrs. Thurston and Mr. Thompson have saddened the lives of many people in the school and the community. They will always be remembered for what they achieved within their lifetime. 2 The following is a list of the top ten senior honor students for three and one-half years of work. They are listed alphabetically and not according to rank. With five former squad members returning and four new hard- working freshmen, it proved to be a good year. The cheerleaders made up some new and very good sideline routines and had many new cheers. Six of the cheerleaders attended the N.C.A. cheerleading camp at Stevens Point where they learned new cheers, chants, and stunts. They also won numerous awards. The squad consisted of: four freshmen, Christine Cole, Sue Eggleston, Beth Skinner, and Sue Sterland, two sophomores, Carol Grueneburg, and Kerry Gee; one junior Bobbi Jo Carpenter; and two seniors, Robin Bradley, and Wendy Neef. They tried out to the routine of, Too Much Time on my hands. The routine was choreo- graphed by former senior squad members. The Pardeeville Pom Pon Squad is the only squad in the Dual County Conference. They are guided by their advisor Ms. Walding- er and their senior co-captains Linda Manthey and Pam Tupper. During the summer 12 of the 15 squad members attended camp at Carroll College in Waukesha. They returned home with new routines to popular music, many ribbons on individual performances, and the coveted spirit stick. The spirit stick is awarded to only a few squads at the camp. The squad performed at all home football and basketball games to music by Mr. Rusch's pep band. They used camp routines, and routines choreographed by squad members. The following were members of the 1981- 82 squad: Seniors, Lori Flower, Bonnie Gavinski, Beth Hare, Barbi Hinds, Kari Hoff- mann, Linda Manthey, Lisa Miles, Gwenn Stauber and Pam Tupper; Juniors, Fay Barden, Laura Barden and Mary Steinich; Sophomore, Darcey Gavinski; and Freshmen, Darla Brad- ley and Kelly Ernst. 45 SENIOR POM PON GIRLS — G. FOOTBALL The 1981 football season proved to be a rebuilding year for the Bulldog squad and Coach Bostad. That fact was apparent by their 2-7 record. With only eight returning seniors, the team relied heavily on the junior and sophomore classes for serious football players. With the experience gained by the underclassmen, the Bulldogs look toward an exciting season next year. Led by only eight returning lettermen, the Bulldogs did not fair all that badly in this year s tough D.C.C., losing a majority of the games by a mere touchdown, perhaps ex- perience would have prevented this. In the All-Conference voting at the end of the season, Bulldog Chris Bostad was Pardeeville's sole recipient of honors making all-conference at center, and honorable men- tion at defensive end. VOLLEYBALL The 1981 volleyball season started off with the team's first non-conference victory over Markesan. With determination in their hearts they fought hard with wins and losses fluctuat- ing evenly during the rest of the season. The girls ended their season taking 2nd in con- ference with a 6 win, 3 loss record. The squad also placed 3rd in the Poynette Invitational, and ended their season with a 2nd at Regionals, beating Cambria, Green Lake, and Princeton, before being defeated by Foynette, the Regional champs. Coach Ms. Julie McGraw, in her 7th year of coaching volleyball, felt that this was her most gratifying year. They were the best bunch of kids to work with,” she claimed. The team of girls consisted of returning letter winners: Sherri Dann, Sally Hanson, Darlene Houk, Shanna Leonard, Stacey Smith, and Lynn Swiggum, and this year's letter win- ners; Terri Belk, Jane Bortz, Denise Deakin, Lori Frank, Lee Skupniewitz, Janice Smith and Julie Waldrop. First team all-conference winner Lynn Swiggum and honorable mention Lee Skup- niewitz, will be keys to the Bulldog team next season, however, the loss of the seniors will be felt. Returning letter winners Sally Hanson, Bonnie Gavinski, Darlene Houk, Marion Eberle, and Lynn Swiggum along with Lori Hamilton, Ann Hebl, Laura Barden, and Lee Skupniewitz rounded out the team. Under the direction of new head coach Mr. Tom Teofilo, the team consisted of nine varsity players; even though the team was lacking in numbers, they were strong and tough. Although the inexperience sometimes hampered the Bulldog girls, they faired quite well in the conference placing 5 th with a record of 8-8. He was placed in com- mand of the wrestlers in hopes of winning the D.C.C. Battle. After losing only four seniors, the Bulldogs entered the season with a hopeful outlook. Co-Captain Bill Hughes achieved his fourth year of fame with the same ease he had shown in the three previous seasons. The Senior wrestlers were Bill Hughes and Clark Hodgson, Co-Captains; and Tom Brodeur. Juniors-Chris Ernst, Bill Payne, and Darrel Kuhl proved to be valuable additives to the team. GIRL'S TRACK The Pardeeville girls track team, with 20 girls out and 16 letter winners, started out their season with a winning streak. The first meet was the Bulldog Invitational which they won by a wide margin, over second place win- ners Poynette. The conference meet was held at Prince- ton. Pardeeville girls continued to win this meet and were looking forward to the Regional, Sectional, and State meets. After qualifying 14 girls for the Sectional meet held at Kohler, the Bulldogs went on to qualify 7 girls for the State meet at Mansfield Stadium, Madison on June 5th and 6th. The outcome of the meet was more than the team expected. Kara Hughes had an excel- lent race in the 800 meters, finishing in first place. She also placed second in the 1600 meter race. The 400 and 800 meter relay team, of Mary Becker, Darlene Houk, Cheryl Ricks, and Lori Hamilton put on an excellent perfor- mance finishing 1st in the 800 meter relay with a time of 1:46.1. They also placed first in the 400 meter relay with a time of 50.97 setting records in both races. Amy Tye finished in 2nd place in the 2 mile with an excellent race for a freshman's first time at the state meet. Sherri Jacobsen finished 7th in the hurdles. The Pardeeville girls took second place; everyone was happy with the accomplishment. 67 i' m 98 oB9Yr? TR£CK — Bottom Row: B. Healy, N. Cook, L. Fischer, D. Parks, M. Barden, D. Led by Kerry Neef and Dan Haber- korn, and coached by Mr. Wes Babcock, the boys started with a big win at their own Bull- dog Invitational. They then began a series of meets that took them up to the conference meet. The boys who were reigning conference champs, went into the conference meet with confidence. At the conference meet the boys placed 2nd to rival Princeton, and then placed third at the regional meet. At the sectional meet in Kohler, Dan Haberkom was the only state qualifier, he qualified in the high jump and the long jump. Dan did well at the state meet, but failed to place. There were 17 letter winners and 11 of them will be returning next season. 68 1982 SENIOR GIRLS IN TRACK — Bottom Row: D. Houk, W. Neef, L. Hamilton. 2nd Row: B. Gavinski, S. Hanson, B. BASEBALL 1981 The 1981 Baseball Bulldogs had an out- standing season. They were Conference Co- Champs and one step away from the State Tournament. Pardeeville shared Top Dual County Honors with Poynette. The Bulldogs ended the season with a conference record of 7-1. The Diamondmen lost only 1 letter winner to graduation with 9 lettermen returning. Many of them were 4 year letter winners, the key to their success. The Bulldogs received the Conference Co- Championship in a most unusual way. First, Westfield came to Pardeeville to finish a rain delay game with the Bulldogs coming out on top 2-1. Then Westfield travelled to Poynette right after the Pardeeville game to play off a tie, Westfield won the game by capitalizing on Poynette errors, this left Pardeeville and Poynette with the same conference records. Seniors, Dan Houk and Scott Smith, re- ceived Most Valuable Player and Team Captain, respectively. The girls started out slow, but gradually the momentum picked up. The Bulldogs im- proved tremendously by the end of the sea- son. The team was backed by several fresh- men starters. The Bulldogs were beaten by Montello in the Regional final, 13-10. Nan Pulver, out fielder, was named All- Conference for the third year in a row. GOLF The 1981 Golfers saw a nonwinning sea- son. This didn't discourage the team members; they were always enthusiastic whether at practice or at meets. The team, young and in- experienced, had a maximum of five people who had golfed before. The other fifteen were trying golf for the first time and enjoyed it. The golfers practiced at the Portage Country Club and generally held meets there or at Green Lake. Although many fans didn't venture to golf meets, team spirit was alive between team members; and they gave support to one another. The 1981 Golf team voted Dan Osborne as team captain; Dan helped keep things alive on the golf course. 74 ROHDE'S SALES S SERVICE Hwy. 33, North of Pardeeville Phone 608-429-2249 Harley-Davidson Motorcycles Homelite, Pioneer, Stihl, Poulan Jacobsen, Lawn-Boy, Ariens Bolens Chainsaws, Lawn Mowers, Tractors Tillers Snow Throwers • ) ■ ■ ■ i PRINTING CRAFTSMEN CO. With the help of the conductor, Mr. James Rusch, the band planned and carried out a very full year. After much preparation, June 1st found them swaying at the heights of the Sears Tower in Chicago; and the next day swaying as they dismounted the roller-coasters of Great America. As they started the school year, their minds were turned to putting on three fabulous half-time shows at the home football games which turned out to include the coldest game Gustrowsky, T. Belk, S Hanson, S. Eggleston, K. Gee. at which the Band has ever played. On November 7th, 20 band members at- tended the All-Conference Band at Westfield. The Pep Band tried to show their dedi- cation for all the sports this year. They played at all home boy's basketball games, a few home girl's basketball games, and wrestling tournaments. The annual Winter Concert was held on December 22; as close as possible to Christ- mas, so everyone would have the seasonal spirit as they pored out their own sentiments through the songs that the band played. A Pop Concert was held in April. Three spell-binding numbers were played by the band at the Music Festival on March 27 in Montello. On March 30, the music students took part in the Conference Solo and Ensemble Festival at Montello. A Spring Concert was held in May. Later in May, they played at the Commencement Exercises of the Class of 1982. Finally, the Pardeeville Band marched in both Pardeeville and Wyocena for the Memorial Day Parade. 00 'vj ALL CONFERENCE BAND — Bottom Row: S. Dann, V. Chapman, V. Thompson, P. On January 30, the chorus took a trip to Princeton to sing in All-Conference Chorus. Some of the more ambitious members took part in Solo-Ensemble; all performed very well.
