Therefore, this yearbook is presented to you Mom and Dad ! No one else has given so much toward the individual development of each graduate then their par- ents. There are no words to express our deep appreciation and indebtedness for all that they have done for us. Mother and Dad were al- ways there, they always cared! We realize that their roles as parents have not always been an easy part to play, yet the real tragedy occurs in not sharing and relating their ideas and dreams to our own lives. We dedicate this yearbook to those miraculous people as a way of expressing our thanks and to give them, in return for their sacrifices, our goals for the future and accomplishments of the past. Our parents gave us the sun in a golden cup with their understanding, patience, sympathy and love. May our gratitude shine as our lives progress! Senior Class of 77 Mn. and Mu. Dewalne Andeuon Mu. OUR FOREIGN FRIEND Patty Matzumura Foreign Exchange Student Soon after 1977 started, P.H.S. received a foreign exchange student. Irma Patty Mat- zumura, daughter of Vincente and Irma Mat- zumura, was our guest. She stayed in the homes of Sue Peterson, Rose Hatzinger, and Tammy Steinich during her six month stay. Patty came from a family with one brother and one sister, both younger. She has no plans in the near future for mar- riage. She may return to her secretarial job or visit her grandfather in Japan. She said that our school is very different compared to hers. Her school was much more strict. They wore ugly gray uniforms and the skirts are worn to the knees. School is fun here, Patty said when asked how she liked attending Pardeeville High School. Patty, 18 years old, has already graduated from high school in Lima, Peru. She partici- pated in the International Fellowship Inc. stu- dent exchange service. She will be leaving in June. Patty says, English is easy to write, but to speak, no. 18 YOU MUST HAVE BEEN A BEAUTIFUL BABY 19 20 ® (% CLASS COLORS: Light Blue and White CLASS FLOWER: White Rose Tipped with Blue CLASS MOTTO: We are the future looking out on the past. Dreams that seemed to come true for the class of 1977. As it has been other years, the King and Queen were not announc- ed until the actual coronation ceremonies. Last year's King, Ralph Turner, crowned this year's King, John Doucette, who then crowned this year's Queen, Mary Polnow. The gym had streamers weaved in various designs on one side and a rainbow on the other to vividly portray the theme, Dream On. A punch bowl that ’ ran like a fountain ' also added to the magic of the night. The Grand March was a great success with everyone joining in. Uncle Sam provided the music. 35 36 HOMECOMING COURT—Freshmen: Cathy Cross, Shell Hodgson; Juniors. Ruthanne Berry, Kirby Brad- ley; Queen Marilyn McCarthy, King Greg Satina; Seniors: Gale Becker, Merwin Breneman; Sophomores: Jodeen Navarro, Mark Bortz. HOMECOMING 197G The piercing cold of the evening did not detract from the magic of Homecoming 1976. The preceding week was filled with heart- warming spirit and complete cooperation among all the classes. The week began with the excitement of the homecoming activities. Many of the favorite games from previous years were highlighted with new ones such as the Boardwalk, Spoon and String Race, and Hat days. The end of the many competitive events found the Seniors taking first place, the Sophomores in second with the Juniors and Freshmen holding third and fourth places, respectively. Friday night was the spectacular climax of the week's activities. The Bulldogs won the game, claiming their victory over the Rio Vi- kings, 21-14. Following the game, the tradi- tional dance was held with Uncle Sam provid- ing the music. The court reigned under the theme of Precious and Few. The gym, dec- orated in mellow shades of green and blue, gave King Greg Satina and Queen Marilyn McCarthy, along with their court, a night al- ways to be remembered. The entire week was a success and provided everyone with lasting memories of Homecoming 76. 37 39 STUDENT COUNCIL—Bottom Row T Kath Pres; G Satina. VP; K Steele. Sec'y.; S. Jacobson, Treas.; L. BAND The band had a good start early in the year. They were a welcome addition to every home football game. They marched on several dif- ferent occasions, including homecoming. Some members of the band participated in the All-Conference Band, held at Princeton on November 6. They did an excellent job. The winter concert was held December 20. The band played ten songs all together, end ing with a combined band and chorus number titled A Tribute of Carols. The concert was a success. The Pep Band again made their appearance at every home basketball game. They helped to raise spirit and get the enthusiasm going. Some members of the band also participated in the Solo-Ensemble Contests which were held March 12 at Green Lake. The Spring Concert Festival was held May 14 at Green Lake, and the Spring Concert was in May. The band ended the year by playing at the commencement ceremonies of the class of 1977. The Pardee ville FFA chapter took up a pro- ject to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. The month of October proved to be a busy one for the chapter. They went to a soil judg- ing contest, Farm Progress Days, and Dairy Cattle judging. The Dairy Cattle contest proved to be good for Neal Jenkins. He placed fifth in the state in Jersey Breed. The annual Hay and Grain Show was held. Top Showman award went to Mark Lands- verk and Corn King to Mike Gleiter. In November, Mark Landsverk attended the an- nual CFF meeting. It was a very disappointing season losing all four dual meets and finishing 6th in the con- ference. The team's progress was slowed by a number of early season injuries. The top runners for Pardeeville were Brian Anderson, Dan Rohde and Tom Hughes. Anderson, who wa s selected captain by the team, set a course record of 19 minutes 11 seconds at the Pardee- ville home course. Rohde was the Bulldog's top runner at the conference meet while Hughes was the leading runner at the regional meet. Letter winners were: Seniors, Dan Rohde and Brian Anderson; Juniors, Peter Abell and David Cummings; Sophomores, Tom Hughes and Jim Wisniewski;; Freshman, Jeff Williams; other team members were Tom Shannon and Tony Carpenter. A disappointing loss in the seventh game against Westfield prevented Pardeeville from going all the way. Pardeeville players came out at the half with a slim but promising 6-0 lead. Their hopes were crushed when West- field came back to score two touchdowns. The Pardeeville offense was never able to score over 22 points in any one single game. It was not however, because of lack of ex- perience for much of the starting squad con- sisted of seniors. Injuries played a heavy role. It was not an uncommon sight to see the ath- letes on crutches or limping on the sidelines. Quite a successful year in all, except for the loss to Westfield, which prevented Pardeeville from participating in the State wide tourna- ment set up by WIAA for the first time in high school football. This year's All-Conference squad included: Mike Frank on offense, Merwin Breneman both offense and defense, Greg Satina also both offense and defense, and Steve Jacobson on defense. Honorable Mentions were: John Dou- cette and Rick Roundy. The team thanks Coach Bostad for the time and dedication he puts into his coaching. His winning record speaks for itself. GIRLS CURLING The girl's team, under new coaches, had a very successful season. They were the confer- ence champs, losing only one game to Portage. At the Wausau bonspiel, they beat Wausau East and Lodi to advance to the champion- ships, there they met Poynette, put up a good fight, but lost by the last rock on a chip shot. They ended the season with a 5-1 record in conference and a 7-2 record overall. This year was the last year for the varsity skip Mary Polnow, 2nd, lean Blochwitz, substi- tute, Lynn Haberkom and IV 3rd, Deb Ham- mell. The curlers appreciate the assistance they received from Mrs. Jean Westcott, Coach, and Mr. Ray Forbes, Supervisor. BOYS CURLING The boys' curling team had a better than ex- pected year, as it was a rebuilding year. They ended the season with a 2-4 record, but many of the losses were by one or two points. Losing by one was the case in Wausau too. The only seniors leaving the team are Vars- ity Skip Brian Anderson and 3rd Steve Farrey. Next year looks good for a winning season. The Bulldogs avenged two early losses and turned the season into a big success by winning their next 15 games. Pardeeville closed the regular season with an overwhelming 99-59 victory over Fall River. They faced some pretty tight spots and never seemed to stop fighting. Even when it looked grim, they never gave up not even against the toughest teams. The high- light of the season was the 67-56 win over Rio which knocked the Vikings out of the ranks of the undefeated. The squad was made up of five Seniors: Tim Kath, Greg Satina, Brian Pulver, Charlie Becker, and Dale Pomplun; five Juniors: Steve Jacobson, Tim Cross, Randy Cross, Tim Bortz, Roy Barden, and one Sophomore: Mark Bortz. Coach Hammond was very proud of the Bulldog's spirit and effort during the 76-77 season which enabled them to place second in the Dual County Conference. CHEERLEADERS In May of 1976, a panel of judges chose the Cheerleaders for the 1976-77 season. The girls had an opportunity to attend the National Cheerleading Clinic at the University of Wis- consin-Stevens Point. Of the eleven girls on the squad, six of them attended camp. The camp proved very rewarding, and the girls brought home many new jumps, cheers, and stunts. Under the guidance of Miss M. Waldinger, the cheerleaders raised money by selling con- cessions at athletic events and sponsoring dances. The money earned paid a portion of the girl's payment for camp and also paid for purchasing of a mini-tramp. The mini-tramp was used mainly for individual lineup jumps but was also used for group stunts and cheers. The cheerleading squad had a lot of hard work and fun; they've all learned to cooperate and become the closest of friends. Seniors on the 76-77 squad were Barb Hug- gett and Kay Steele. But in spite of some early losses the Bulldog girls with great effort and determination improved greatly throughout the season. There were four return- ing letterwomen on the squad: Gale Becker, Jackie Barden, Sue Bortz, and Joni Reuhl. The 1976-77 girls basketball team was filled with enthusiasm, determination, dedication and teamwork., which in themselves, create the soul of a winning team. It was a year of re- building. Throughout the season, the girls showed good hustle and cooperation. They smoothed out the rough spots and learned from mistakes. The Lady Bulldogs never gave up and improved even more as the season wore on. It was truly a team effort, being down by 21 strokes after 9 holes, just about everyone was ready to concede to Westfield, but not the Bulldogs; they stormed back with a school record of 161 on the back nine to win the con- ference meet by two strokes. Ron Meincke and Steve Mulryan of the Bull- dogs gained All-Conference Honors. The team also set a school record of going undefeated in dual and triangular competition prior to the conference meet. Members of the 1976 golf team were; Ron Meincke, Dennis Hayes, Brian Pulver, George Satina, Tim Isom, Jeff Ortman, Mike Gleiter, Ron Turner, and Steve Horsman. Coach John Kerkenbush when asked to com- ment on the chances of the 77 Bulldog squad, replied, that he was very optimistic, due to the fact that they had 3 lettermen returning from last year's squad, which is a good nucleus for another championship.
