NANCY CARR Lifting educational standards, promoting P.H.S. has been one of her chief goals. No one has done more for the individual future of every student than she has. Her philosophy is that there is nothing you can not do if you put your heart, soul and mind into it. Thinking begins with education and without education you do not have a base for comparing your thoughts to, is one of her favorite para- phrases. To you, Nancy Carr, for the thirteen years you have been here, you never were afraid to show you cared, we the class of 1976 dedi- cate this annual. It is our hope that the up- coming underclassmen will learn as much from you as we did in our brief stay at Pardeeville Senior High. 2 DEDICATION MR. ROBERT HANEY In the six years that he has been at Pardee- ville High School, he has contributed a lifetime of interest and concern for each of his many students. With his genuine concern for each individ- ual, he has made us more concerned about ourselves and other people. The many hours of preparation that have gone into his Social Problems, Wisconsin State and Local Government, World Problems, and Federal Government classes have made these courses relevant to everyday living and we will benefit from this knowledge for years to come. With appreciation and thanks, we, the class of 1976, dedicate this annual to Robert L. Haney. 3 WE M A V NEVER PASS THIS WAV AGAIN L4.it- so thty say Is but a game and they Itt 4t slip away Loot - llkt tht Autumn sun Should bt dying but IV6 only just btgun Llkt tht twilight In tht noad up ahtad Thty don't stt just whtnt wt'nt goln' And all tht stcntts In tht unlvtnst Whlsptn In oun taut and all tht ytans will comt and go And takt us up, always up. Paul Taylor had a season record for hits with 27 and a career mark for hits with 59. Paul also had a conference batting average record of 704 and tied the Bulldog record for career runs scored with 47. Lou Delk set new records in doubles with 9, career doubles with 16 and a new mark for career triples with 7. Lou also set a new Bulldog mark for career homeruns with 8. Ralph Turner tied a previous school record for most stolen bases with 12. Head Coach Bill Hebl and Assistant Coach John Phelps led the Bulldog squad all the way to the Sectional finals at La Crosse. There the Bulldog machine was stepped one game short of the State Tournament by La Crosse Logan in a very close 3-2 battle. Letterwinners were: Brian Carey, Lou Delk, Paul Taylor, Phillip Tarrant, Jeff Warnke, Ralph Turner, Terry Gorsuch, Dennis Taylor, Greg Satina, Rick Wendt, Darcy Kuhn, Steve Jacob- son and Scott Merwin. W - irttii FOOTBALL VARSITY FOOTBALL It was the year of the Bulldogs in the 1975- 76 football season. Not only were they Dual County Conference Champions, but they were led by the leading scorer in the Conference. The Bulldogs finished with an impressive 8-1 record, beginning the season with a shutout and ending it with their fourth shutout. The last home game was against Westfield and was thought by all to be a championship game. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the Bull- dogs proved to be too strong, especially with the return of senior Pat Standiford to help burn the Pioneers' cabin with a 44-8 win. Standi- ford, who had been sitting out the beginning of the season with a broken wrist, helped cele- brate Coach Bostad's birthday and Parent's Night with four touchdowns. Icing was added to the cake as seniors Ralph Turner and Stuart Van Swol scored to make Pardeeville’s record at the end of the game stand 7-1. Pardeeville's closing game of the 1975 sea- son was a success as the Bulldogs made the Pirates walk the plank at Fall River for a 7-0 victory. The game was the most physical one of the year as both teams shut each other out for three quarters. In the last quarter mighty Ralph Turner did it again by running the ball in for the only score of the game. Although it was quite a defensive battle, both teams made too many turnovers. Congratulations to Coach Bostad and the Bulldog team! This year's All-Conference squad included Ralph Turner on the offensive and defensive teams, Merwyn Breneman also on the offen- sive and defensive teams, Dan Pulver on the defensive and Dean Mulkey on the offen- sive. All were great Bulldog players and Turner, Pulver and Mulkey were seniors in the 1975-76 season. Honorable Mentions for the All-Dual team were: Dennis Taylor, Terry Gor- such, and Dan Pulver, all seniors, on the offen- sive team and Dean Mulkey, Charles Becker and Dennis Taylor on the defensive team. He also made it to the State Meet for high hurdles. Randy Welk set a school record in the 2-mile run, Jeff Haynes set one in the pole vaulting; Dan Pulver set records in the shot put and disc The 880 relay team set a school and confer- ence record. The team consisted of Tom Dal- ton, leff Haynes, Pat Standiford and Bruce Kartman. Throughout the season, they ironed out the rough spots, and came on very strong in many of their games. Thev ended the season with 9 win and 9 loss record, very well for a rebuilding year. Always counted on to come through, Ralph Turner, the only starter left from the State Tourney team, was once again floor leader; other returning lettermen were Bob Neesam, Sr and Steve Jacobson, Soph. Other seniors on the squad were Bruce Flower and Dale Kamrath; Juniors, Dale Pomplun, Greg Satina, Steve Neesam, Charlie Becker, Darcy Kuhn and Rick Roundy, and Sophomore Buck'' Tim Bortz. The hustling young Bulldogs never gave up, improving more and more as the season wore on, Coach Hammond cdn be proud of their efforts. After losing their first opener to Lodi by a close margin of points, the young Bulldogs became more serious about the sport and worked hard to beat Cambria and Montello but lost to a tough Westfield and Rio team. Pardeeville went into the Holiday tourna- ment and emerged with two senior champions —Ron Griepentrog in the 119 lbs. division and Dean Mulkey at 185. Two other seniors, Pat Standiford claimed 3rd place, and Don Caten- ccci claimed fourth after losing a close match in overtime. CROSS COUNTRY—Mr Delaney, Coach; M Tolley, B Anderson, J. Wisniewski, M Hanna, D. Hayes, B Tolley. 1975 PARDEE VILLE CROSS COUNTRY The Pardeeville Cross Country season start- ed out with a disappointing team turn out in numbers barely filling a varsity squad of 3 with 6 members. In triangular meet competi- tion, the team totaled 5 wins and 4 losses. The conference meet hosted by Pardeeville at Portage Golf Course was a true cross country challenge, with varied terrain of hills and fair- ways. Pardeeville matched the challenge with a surprise upset over Markesan and took a strong third place with Westfield running away with the individual and team titles. Gleiter, G. Satina, T. Isom, R Turner, S Horsman, The 1975-76 golf team had four returning lettermen. They were Steve Mulryan, Dennis Hayes, Brian Pulver, and Ron Meincke. The 1974-75 team was comprised mostly of underclassmen and Coach Kerkenbush was very optimistic about the chances of the 75-76 team finishing in the top division. The 74-75 team showed a lot of poise for their inexper- ience. They finished with an 8-1 record in dual meet competition, but they slipped on the day of the conference meet and ended up 5th. Coach Kerkenbush said that the last confer- ence meeting, he proposed a different format in determining the conference champion. In the past it was who ever had the hot hand on the day of the conference meet. The new proposal is a point system with one point going to the winner, and no points to the loser in a dual meet. Two points to the winner in a triangular meet, with one point going to second and none to third. The conference meet will still be very important in the sense that the point value will increase for that day. For example, first place is worth 10 points, second place 8 points, third 6 points, fourth 4 points, fifth 2 points and sixth no points. Coach Kerkenbush feels that the new point system will create more interest and add en- thusiasm with the dual and tri-angular meets having some value to them, other than just a practice round. 22 CURLING Both of the curling teams did a fine job this year The boys team consisted of Dennis Hayes, Ron Meincke, Paul Westcott, Brian Anderson, Steve Farrey, Charles Neuhauser, Mike Wolfe, and Jeff Ortman. The girls’ team included Mary Polnow, Jean Blochwitz, Kim Gavinski, Maura Hughes, Katie Hayes, and Virginia Walker Coach Sprecher did a great job of leading the teams. BOYS CURLING—Front: C. GIRLS SPORTS The 1975-76 girls sports season has been very successful and provided girls with the opportunity to participate in activities that promote sportsmanship, school spirit, and physical fitness. With the discontinuation of GAA, a lot more girls went out for the travel- ing volleyball, basketball, and track teams. Not only did they leam skills while playing these different sports, but they also acquired good sportsmanship, which is especially need- ed when playing different schools in the con- ference. While participating in these sports, the girls can earn points, and with these points they can receive letters and pins. This year, for the first time girls may join the Varsity Club cfter earning a letter. 23 CHEERLEADERS Cheerleading began in June for eight of the girls when they attended a cheerleading camp in Stevens Point. After one week of strenuous practice of jumps, cheers, and stunts they re- turned to Pardeeville prepared to cheer on the Bulldogs. Many hours of scheduled practice began in August and continued until February. A lot of hard work and a lot of fun went into this year's group, but they also accomplished many dif- ficult stunts and precision cheers. Cheerlead- ing this past year taught them cooperation and has left them good friends. Seniors on 75-76 squad were Ellen Barth, Kris Briggs, Deb Grogan and Connie Kath. These girls were among the twenty girls who tried out before judges last spring. Over the summer some of the girls attended clinics, which helped them make up the routines for the performances. The Pom Pon Girls performed at all home football and basketball games. All the foot- ball routines are performed with the band, under the direction of Mr. Rusch. During basketball season routines are done to the band and popular hits. One of the highlights of the year was when the squad marched with the band in the Whitewater State University Homecoming parade. 25 JV CHEERLEADERS—Center. GIRLS BASKETBALL Teamwork, determination, experience, and talent will win any game and Pardeeville's 1975-76 girls basketball team had a sufficient amount of those virtues.. The lady Bulldogs en- joyed a banner year as they romped through the dual county conference with four return ing letterwomen, Penny Meierdirk, Juli Ham- mond, Connie Kath, and Laurie Mercer. In her first coaching position, Julie McGraw led the team to a string of victories and shared title honors with Markesan. The 1975 Prom NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN It was a night to remember. The gym was draped with black tarp with white streamers, streaming down the sides. There was lovely white wrought iron lawn furniture for the court to sit on. Kevin Bernander, last year's king, crowned Ralph Turner king of the 1975 Prom. Ralph then crowned Linda Jackson, Queen of the 1975 Prom. The names of the king and queen were not announced until the night of the prom. The programs were the prettiest Pardeeville ever had, they were dark blue satin with white lettering, and AFIGHASTA provided the dancers with superb music. 30 31 iidtiicfJfii JJiuas HOMECOMING COURT—Freshman: Julie Bush, Donn Johnson; Juniors: Jayne Bradley, Charles Becker; Queen Laurie Kent; King Dennis Taylor; Seniors: Deb Grogan, Dan Pulver, Sophomores Sandy Meincke, Tim Bortz, HOMECOMING 75 It was more than a trial run this year, as the homecoming activities, under the theme of Midnight Blues, began their second year under the newly adopted plan by the student council Several revisions had been made in outdoor activities to make it safer and easier for stu- dents to participate. The new events, the shovel race and the obstacle course, replaced the greased pig contest and the tricycle races. The student's other favorites from last year in which competition was held were the car push and the tug of war. With the same indoor activities and traditional pep-rally bonfire the road to a victorious homecoming was on it's way. With more activities during the school day, school spirit brought everyone together. The final results of the week of competition saw the juniors taking first with 171 points, sophomores second with 162 points, seniors third with 126 points, and freshmen fourth with 52 points. Entertainment provided by Uncle Sam and a gym decorated in shades of blue, gave King Dennis Taylor and Queen Laurie Kent a ma- jestic night. Along with their court, Homecom- ing '75 is one to always be remembered. STUDENT COUNCIL—Back Row: P Cahoon, M Milton. D. Catenacci, P Abell, P. Kamrath. S Ber- t£n.t!erTR Tn,|' Becker, S. Jacobson. The chorus gave two presenta- tions over the course of the year. The first was the winter concert, which was held December 16. Contemporary, Christmas songs, marches, and melodys of tunes were performed excep- tionally well. The spring concert, which was held in May, was another success. The chorus had a well- balanced and harmonized sound this year. All in all it was a very good year. 42 ALL-CONFERENCE CHORUS—Bottom Row: L. Kent, K Dawson, D Harmon, G. Becker. J Blochwitz, S. The group known as the Columbia County Vocational Cluster involved four schools: Pardeeville, Rio, Cambria, and Poynette. Under the super- vision of Mr. Gary Spagnoletti, three two credit classes began in the fall. Health careers, taught at the Wyocena Home by Mrs. Patti Youra and Mrs. Sharon Dykstra included the study of the human anat- omy, first aid, and patient care. Each student who passed the course received a Red Cross and a nursing aid certificate. The Power Mechanics class, taught at Otse- go by Mr. Paul Burill studied different aspects of the auto engine, mechanical repairs, and other mechanical related skills. The third class, Building Construction, held at Pardeeville was instructed by Mr. Tom Haf- erman. Students construct a 3 bedroom ranch home over a two year span. Students learned many skills in the building trade, some of which include carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring, masonary, floor coverings, cabinet making and roofing. The major objective of the Cluster' program is to provide students with more vocational skills suited to the needs of the community and to explore more types of vocational occupa- tions. 75 SECRETARIES—-Seated: Mrs. Buzzell, Mrs. Krueger.
