AND BE MY FRIEND. cP£tO 2 A TRIBUTE The class of 1974 finds it hard to dedicate this annual to just one person. For without the help and assistance of everyone here at Par- deeville High, our four years here would not have been successful. We would like to pay special tribute to Mr. Donald Otterness for his fifteen devoted years to this school. Coming in as Freshmen, we didn't realize how dedicated he really was: but leaving as Seniors, we know now that there are not many around like him; and the class of '74 extends our best wishes to him in his future years. We also wish to thank Mr. Walter Sprecher for his service to us, and for his taking on the responsibility of being a class advisor to us this last and most important year at P.H.S. To Mr. Robert Bostad we extend our thanks for his devotion to sports. Even when we weren't winning, he still stood by backing our team. In his ten years as coach of P.H.S., he has inspired and led the Bulldogs to winning seasons and several championships. The editors and annual staff would like to thank Mr. lames Malinowsky and Mr. Ken Youra for the pictures for this annual. Again we thank you, everyone, for standing by our side and helping us to make our four years at P.H.S. some of the most memorable ones in our lives. 3 YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE When you walk through a storm, keep your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark. Walk on through the wind. Walk on through the rain, Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart. And you'll never walk alone. You'll never walk alone. Paul Tay- lor grabbed a blocked punt and ran 40 yards for the first touchdown. Lou Delk and Tom Dalton also had touchdowns. The Bulldogs traveled to Fall River where they played for the first time under new lights. Two touchdowns by Lang Spicer, one by Mike Haynes, and one by Lou Delk put the final score 28-6. Green Lake was Pardeeville's next victim. The Lakers were never in the game as the Bulldogs scored three touchdowns in the first quarter. A touchdown by Lou Delk, two by Mike Haynes, and two by Tom Dalton resulted in a 35-6 victory. The Bulldogs next traveled to Markesan to obtain another victory, 29-0. Touchdowns were made by Tom Dalton, and Lou Delk who had three. Homecoming put two teams with undefeated marks up against each other. The game show- ed some good playing as both teams had a hard time scoring. Tom Bortz made the only Pardeeville touchdown which made the score 7-0. Montello then took revenge and also fcored a touchdown. Their two point convers- ion was the result of an 8-7 defeat for the Bulldogs. Traveling to Cambria the Bulldogs defeated the Hilltoppers 44-2. Mike Haynes made five touchdowns while Lou Delk and Lang Spicer each had one. This win enabled the Bulldogs to claim a five way tie for first. The Bulldogs next traveled to Princeton to play an important game. A very good game was played but the Bulldogs were defeated 20-15. Parent's Night was a disappointment. The Bulldogs, who were in a tie for second, were defeated 19-0 by Randolph. The final game of the season was against the arch rival, Rio at Rio. The Bulldogs routed a 40-0 victory over the Vikings. Four touch- downs were made by Lou Delk and two by Lang Spicer. This win put Pardeeville in a tie for third with a 6-3 season record. Three boys made the All-Conference team. For the Offense: Tom Bortz, tackle; Lang Spicer, end, and Mike Haynes, back. For the Defense: Mike Haynes, linebacker. Lou Delk received honorable mention. The Thursday evening activities were completed with the snake dance downtown. The results of a week of work and fun were presented at the parade on September 29. Seniors took first place with their float, We're Peelin' Down Victory Lane. They were fol- lowed by the Freshmen with Bulldogs Chew Em Up.”; Sophomores Roman To Seas a Vic- tory, and the Juniors, We'll Mug Em. That night the Bulldogs played a hard, heartbreaking game losing to Monteilo by one point 8-7. After the game the band, Snoblind, played at the dance. There, King Lang Spicer and Queen Cheryl Parks reigned. The rest of the court was: Seniors: Dan Tessman and Deb Meekma. Juniors: Tom Bortz and Renee Roundy. Sophomores: Dennis Taylor and Juli Hammond. Freshmen: John Doucette and Lynn Haberkorn. So came the closing of another memorable homecoming. 43 44 45 CROSS-COUNTRY—Coach Delaney, Manager S. The team competed in eleven meets, grabbing six firsts, two seconds, a third, fourth, and tenth. Included in the meets were four home meets against Rio, Randolph, Cambria, and Marke- san. Th Bulldog runners were victorious in each of these meets. Lee Wilcox took four firsts, setting a course record each time, while Randy Welk took four second place finishes in the home meets. The team was second in the Conference meet, with Lee Wilcox and Randy Welk win- ning All-Conference honors with their second and third place finishes, respectively. In regional competition they finished fourth, narrowly missing the chance to go on to sec- tionals. Lee Wilcox finished third, giving him a sectional berth. In sectionals, he finished 12th of a field of 69. In all, it was a very good year for Pardee- ville Cross Country. Coach Delany hopes for an expanded program next year. They faced some mighty tight spots but never seemed to stop fighting and usually pulled through. Pardeeville proved to be quite a successful team finishing the 1974 Bucket season in 3rd place with an 11-7 record. There were only three returning lettermen this season. They were Ken Mulryan, Mike Haynes and Mark Meierdirk. Other Seniors making up the team were Hick Kamrath, Bob Williams, Paul Crawford, Paul Anderson, and Lang Spicer. Juniors rounding out the team were Phinney Tarrant, 'Bumba' Bortz, Jeff Smith and Jeff Warnke, also of great help was Sophomore Ralph Turner. The 1974 Bulldogs, with Coach Bruce Ham- mond, well deserve congratulations on a fine played season. They came up with a margin of 36-27. Their first conference win was against Rio. This is what stimulated the confidence in the team. There were two seniors on the team: Bob Meincke and Greg Woodward. Greg came in first in the Holiday Tournament. His individ- ual record was 7-7-0. Bob's individual record was 18-4-0. He came in first in both the Holi- day Tournament and the Conference Tourna- ment. Bob set four new school records: most wins—18, most pins—14, most team points earned—99 2 and most takedowns—18. He also had the fastest pin this year at 24 seconds. The team did a great job coming in 3rd in conference standings. The overall record was 5-8-0. The Bulldogs success did not stop at the conference level. Exciting tournament play carried them one step away from a state tournament berth. In the sectionals the Bull- dogs met up with a sound Adams-Friendship team and lost a heartbreaker, 4-3. Pardeeville slated an overall record of 13-5. Sophomore pitcher Lou Delk was tabbed as the Most Valuable Player. Junior Lang Spicer earned the honor of Captain. The returning lettermen were: Mike Haynes, Mark Meierdirk, Lang Spicer, and Bob Wil- liams, Bryan Carey, Lou Delk, Paul Taylor, Jeff Warnke, Dennis Taylor, and Ralph Turner. The Girl's Athletic Association is an organ- ization designed for girls who would like to participate in a variety of sports. While participating in these sports, the girls earn points, and with these points they can receive letters and pins. Not only do they learn skills in playing these different sports, but they also acquire good sportsmanship. The different sports the girls had a chance to participate in during the year were foot- ball, volleyball, basketball, and individual sports which included tennis, badmitton, table tennis, and shuffleboard. There were also traveling volleyball and basketball teams. The girls played different schools within the con- ference. The teams played very well and showed good sportsmanship throughout the year. 66 G A A OFFICERS—J. Blochwitz, Recorder; L. Allen, Recorder; D Farrey, Pres, P. Walker, V. BAND The band started the year by leading the homecoming parade and doing a fine job. Under the direction of Mr. James Rusch, the band entertained the crowd at halftime at the game on homecoming night. Many students were involved in solo- ensemble. Those that participated were well- rewarded for their hard work. The annual-winter and spring concerts were put on for the public. The band, stage band, chorus, and select chorus gave splendid per- formances. The band also performed at the Spring Music Festival. The pep band inspired the students to cheer and back the Bulldogs at all football and bas- ketball games. The band concluded its year by playing at the 1974 graduation ceremonies. 75 STAGE BAND—Bottom Row S Meyers, K. Bradley, R. McDonald, S Bortz, F Gawel, K Steele, G Becker, J. Blochwitz. 2nd Row: J. CHORUS The Pardeeville Senior High Chorus of 1973- 74 assisted by Mr. James Rusch, started it's year of presentations with the annual Christ- mas concert. Many contemporary numbers were done successfully, along with songs of the past. The concert was broadcast over WPDR-FM from Portage, as was the Spring concert in May. The students spent many hard-working hours preparing for both. The large number of members made for a full, unified sound. Although they took their singing seriously, many enjoyable times were spent meeting new friends and having fun with the old. For a completion of a fine year, the chorus rang at the commencement ceremony dedicat- ing it to the graduating students of the class of 1974. 77 ALL-CONFERENCE CHORUS—Bottom Row: S. Meyers. Zuhlke 78 FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT On December 19, 1973 the Blochwitz family enthusiastically welcomed Telma Rutman, the foreign exchange student from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Telma comes from a family of four. Her father is a veternarian, and her mother is a chemist. She has one brother, fourteen, and a freshman in high school. Comparing our country to hers, she found that we dress as they do only perhaps a little warmer. Their climate is warmer and they have no seasons” as we do. As for her school life, Telma's classes start at 7:30 in Brazil and last 'til 12:00. Her town is smaller than Pardeeville and so is the school she attends. She is an excellent student and enjoyed all her subjects here as well as those in her homeland. One big difference Telma noticed was that in Brazil their school doesn't have any organizations or activities like we do such as forensics, dances, etc. When asked what her favorite American food was she replied, all sweets.” Good luck Telma, we hope you enjoyed your stay here as much as we enjoyed getting to know you and having you with us. 79 Congratulations and Best Wishes GENERAL INDICATOR CORPORATION Pardee ville ROHDE'S SALES £ SERVICE Harley - Davidson Motorcycles Snowmobiles Pardeeville, Wis.
