1968 Whisper Editor - Rhonda Sprecher Assistant Editors - Carol Breneman Diane Healy It’s Not The End, But The Beginning i INTRODUCTION This year, part two of the senior high was completed and dedicated. A fine beginning has been made; however, completion of this phase of the senior high building is not the end; Pardeeville area schools must continue to progress. Education does not progress by equipment and buildings alone. The imaginations and resourcefulness of Pardeeville educators will be called upon to meet the challenge of the new dimensions in education required in this age of continuous technological achievement. Students must become independent, creative thinkers with good common sense and the initiative to improve themselves. They must become increasingly aware that education continues after graduation with advanced schooling, military service, or on the job. Em- ployment provides opportunity for continuous self-development which today is a necessity. The students of today and tomorrow must be- come increasingly aware of new terms, con- cepts, and the exciting challenges of living and learning. DWAYNE I. SCHMALTZ—Superintendent We met the people who guided DEDICATION The Senior Class of '68 dedicate this annual to Mr. Malinovsky. As a friend and advisor for the past three years, he has guided us through some of our most memorable experi- ences, sharing with us many enjoyable mo- ments, and enlightening us in times of con- fusion. Since his work is endless and often thank- less, we wish to show our deepest gratitude with this dedication. The seniors have spent four great years to- gether. Their freshman year they got to meet new friends through initiation. Their sopho- more year they had the chance for revenge on the incoming freshmen. Then the junior year rolled around all too fast. That year seemed to be the busiest. King Gary Bankers and Queen Linda Miller reigned over the Junior Prom, Edelweiss. Everyone worked real hard to make the prom a success. It will always be a cherished memory. The junior class play, Belles on Their Toes, was a lot of hard work, but it proved worthwhile. This year the seniors were involved in many projects. The Bulldog's Bark” was a lot of hard work, but everyone appreciated it. One of the largest projects was the 1968 Whisper. Many hours of work and a lot of patience went into the production of this year's annual. The seniors are very proud of the yearbook, and they're sure everyone will enjoy it for years to come. They also had a class play which required a lot of work. As this year comes to an end, the seniors look back over the past four years and remem- ber all the good times that they had together as a class. Deep down they are sorry that it went so fast. Commencement will not be the end, but the beginning of many new and en- riching experiences as each senior goes his own way. The students participated in a snake dance which ended downtown with a pep rally led by the cheerleaders. Homecoming Day, October 6, was filled with various activities. The parade was in the after- noon. Each class and organization was rep- resented by a float. The Freshman took first place with their entry of They'll Be Doggin' It and That's No Bull with the Sophomores taking second place and the Juniors holding third place. The court also appeared in the parade. They were: Freshman — Patty Mc- Carthy and Brian Lytle. Sophomores — Leann Gorman and Greg Wolf. Juniors — Kathy Her- reman and George Lytle. Seniors — Lynn Mc- Carthy and Doug Lovelace. Reigning over the festivities was King Tom Crawford and Queen Kathy Crawford. The Homecoming game was a real lift to all Bulldog Fans. The Bulldogs took over the un- disputed lead in the Dual County Conference by defeating the Montello Hilltoppers 19-0. The highlight of the Homecoming festivities was the dance, led by King Tom and Queen Kathy. Furnishing the music to the theme of Reflections, was the The Morning Dayze. A wonderful and exciting Homecoming came to an end. 30 HOMECOMING COURT—Leann Gorman, Greg Wolf, Patty McCarthy, Brian Lytle, Tom Crawford, King; Kathy Crawford, Queen; Doug Lovelace, Lynn McCarthy. Hundreds attended the new school for this honored occasion. The dedication exercises were begun by the senior high band with a musical prelude directed by Mr. Rusch. The Harry D. Jerred American Legion Post presented the colors and the audience sang the national anthem. Father Baughs gave the invocation. Congressman Robert Kastenmeier, the first of several speakers, was introduced by Mr. Schmaltz, superintendent. The congressman congratulated the district for their progress in education. A cordial welcome was given by Mrs. West- cott, President of the School Board of Pardee- ville Area Schools. Presentation of the build- ing was given by Mr. Peters, representing the architectural firm, Peters and Martinsons. Mrs. Westcott accepted it on behalf of the school district. Mr. Schmaltz introduced the following speak- ers, who commented appropriately: Mr. Malin- ovsky, principal; Mr. Alvin Schultz, President of the Pardeeville Education Association; and Ken Reuhl, President of the P.H.S. Student Council. The senior high chorus sang a musical selec- tion led by Mrs. Price. 34 Senior High School Mr. Carl Taylor, the main speaker at the ex- ercises, gave the dedication address. This powerful speaker told the audience that we must educate for values that encompass all humanity and stressed that God and educa- tion are inseparable. A former minister at the Pardeeville and Rosedale Presbyterian Churches, Mr. Taylor is the founder and Presi- dent of the Waukesha State Bank. Rather than accept an honorarium for speaking in his old home town, he ordered a large globe to be purchased with the money. Mr. Taylor then presented the globe to Ken Reuhl and Mr. Schmaltz for the use of all students now and in the future. To conclude the program Reverend Klaver gave the benediction. Those attending were then free to browse around the new school and enjoy refreshments in the cafeteria. Student Council members acted as guides. The Class of '68 is immensely proud to be the first class to graduate from the new senior high. They will always be grateful to the citi- zens of the district, the Board of Education, and the faculty, especially Mr. Schmaltz and Mr. Malinovsky. All of these dedicated people have given the seniors a school full of wonderful memories that they'll always cherish. 35 Creating familiar sounds... CHORUS—Top Row: P. Davison, M. Rataczak, P. The other num- bers featured the entire concert band. A short concert was presented for the high school students in February, in honor of the Pardeeville Athletes. Also the Band Boosters sponsored a basketball game in March starr - ing the Green Bay Packer All-Stars. Participation in sports such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, football, baseball, and rec- reational sports earned the girls points toward a G.A.A. pin or letter. In order to get the awards, they must obtain the goal of 1500 points. A trip was taken by all G.A.A. members in the spring. GAA OFFICERS—Top Row: Sportsheads: S. Coming C. Cook, J McCarthy, K. The Pom-Pom girls, which were organized last year got into full swing this year. At the beginning of the year they chose blue pants- jumpers with gold shirts for their uniforms. They were so proud to carry the big blue and gold pom-poms. The first performance was a huge success on Homecoming night to the tune of Hey, There Mr. Touchdown. They proudly per- formed at every home basketball game to many popular dances and marches. The 1967-68 Pom-Pom Girls worked hard to create spirit and enthusiasm in Pardeeville High School. The girls have started what they hope will become a tradition. 43 Finding ReservesVReserving Finds HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARIANS—Top Row: R. Grimes, M. Mayes, Sec'y., J. Cross, B. Tarrant, E. Carr, R. The Student Council continued their ice cream sales during the noon hour. The Home- coming activities were revised by the Student Council members who worked hard to make it an enjoyable time for all. Also, to entertain the student body the Student Council present- ed a Christmas program. During the cold winter months, they set up noon hour activities in the gymnasium. After every meeting, each member reported the results to a class to get better student contact. The student council is only what the student body makes it. This year they feel the students have co-operated extremely well — it was a SUCCESS. 46 Our great speakers” FORENSICS—Top Row: D. Smith, C. Meyers, P. Tuss, P. Dungan, C. Werner, C. Cook, J. Also one viceroy was elected from each class to convey messages from the class to the meet- ings. The Viceroys were: Patty Tuss, Bob Tar- rant, and Bonnie Walker. On Sunday, December 10, the Spanish Club went to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. They had a special Spanish Day at the museum. A program was given where a family danced, sang, and broke a pinata. It was all very colorful, everyone enjoyed the trip. The Bulldogs next game was against the Fall River Pirates. Randy Harruff scored four touchdowns, Bob Tarrant one, Dan Cummings a safety, and George Polnow was successful in all five extra point attempts. Both defense and offense played great ball with outstanding defensive players George Polnow, Doug Love- lace, Bob McElroy, Bruce Brant, Dan Herwig, Dan Cummings, and lim Emmons. The team easily ran over the Pirates 35-13. The Bulldogs kept their winning streak going by defeating their old rival, the Rio Vikings, 14-12. The game was a real thriller with the halftime score 12-0 in Rio's favor. But the Bull- dogs came storming back when George Lytle blocked a Rio punt and ran for a score. George Polnow intercepted a pass and two plays later, due to the great blocking of the front line, Dick Woodward ran into paydirt. George Polnow made both extra points. Pardeeville easily defeated the Princeton Tigers in their next game with everyone seeing action. Eight Bulldogs scored touchdowns and the final score was 51-25. The Bulldogs then had to face the undefeat- ed Montello Hilltoppers for homecoming. They won 19-0. Once again the offense and defense played a great game, with that vicious line blocking for offense and completely stunning the Hilltoppers on defense. In the next game the Bulldogs trounced the Randolph Rockets 38-14. The Bulldogs scored six times and the defense allowed only two TD's. Offensive and defensive standouts were Randy Harruff, George Polnow, George Lytle, and fim Emmons. The Bulldogs romped to a 25-6 victory over the Cambria Hilltoppers. Randy Harruff and George Polnow scored four TD's between them and also showed some great running. The Bulldogs final game was a big one against the Markesan Hornets because the championship was at stake. Both teams show- ed great defensive efforts but Randy Harruff scored early for the Bulldogs only score. The Hornets scored late in the third quarter but constant pressure from the big front line stopped another late Hornet drive and gave the Bulldogs the ball. The final score was 7-7 which gave the Bulldogs the Championship. A record crowd attended the football ban- quet which was held on Monday, November 6. Henry Jordan was the guest speaker. The team chose Randy Harruff as the Most Valuable Player who scored 14 touchdowns for 74 points. Dick Woodward received the Stagg Award for most improved player and the Dr. Winkler Lineman Award went to Bob Tarrant. The following boys made the all-conference team; George Lytle as Offensive and Defen- sive Guard, Bob Tarrant as Offensive and De- fensive End, George Polnow as Offensive and Defensive Halfback, and Randy Harruff as Of- fensive Halfback. Dan Cummings received Honorable Mention as Offensive Guard and Bob McElroy as Offensive Center. 58 CHEERLEADERS Standing: K. Herreman, B-TeamCapt.; L. Miller, A Team Capt.; M. Manning, M. Mayes, P.
