We take this way of thanking her for the assistance she has given us in our class projects, especially our Junior Prom and our 1958 Annual. The Class of 1958. LOOKING BACK This year our high school opened with an enrollment of almost 200 students. New classes were added to expand our curriculum. Our athletic department again showed its good sportsmanship. All other activities proved successful in promoting good fellowship and giving us valuable experience. During all these months we were taking pictures, planning pages, and meeting schedules to give you the type of yearbook you wanted. Portage, Wisconsin 3 Chanqeable fall — the season of lazy, slow, easy days of Indian summer — the clear crisp days the riot of color — the damp nights — hunting, hiking, football, and school. It was the season of going back to school, of seeing familiar faces and meeting new people. , _ But — let's go back — back to the first day of school, September 4_ On that day the Seniors looked very much at home and confident amid the wide-eyed, bewildered Freshmen. We scanned the group of new teachers, and typical of our age, we made hasty judgments. The lonq awaited day of Initiation finally arrived and the Sophomores eagerly imposed mock tortures upon the strangely clad Freshmen. How the Sophomores loved this day, and perhaps it isn too presuming to say that the Freshmen called it fun, too. . , , ... , Football games were one of the highlights of the season. Few students missed the exciting at- mosphere of the games. The Pep Band and the faithful cheerleaders added to the enjoyment of the 9 The biq event of the fall was Homecoming. This was the week when school spirit ran high, the week when a general feeling of excitement prevailed. The immense bonfire and the snake dance on Thursday night began the climax of the big week. At the bonfire, it was announced that Suzaunne Ades would be Queen and Billy Warnke would be King. The participants of the snake dance wove in and out, twisted and turned and then, breathless, paused for cheers on the corner of Main Street At last, amid the turmoil of decorating, the big moment was approaching. The parade on rriday afternoon with the Band, the floats, and the Queen and her court added its share of the excitement to the already tense and excited crowd. Then that night came the climax of the week, he game with Camoria Spirits were dampened by our defeat, but, really, nothing could suppress them for long. Everyone enjoyed the big dance after the game. And, after everything was over, the Seniors were a little sad, for it had been the last time they were really a part of Homecoming. ,, Other activities added to the excitement of fall—F. F. A., G. A. A., Chorus, and the one-act play. Meetings, initiations, sports, and other enjoyable times in these activities are not the kind of memories that will be laid aside and forgotten in a short time. ,__, . , Thanksgiving vacation came — and went and we had settled down to the routine of school. And as the leaves fell from the trees and a few flakes of snow began to fall,we knew that fall had ended and winter was approaching swiftly. They came to school dressed in their stunning costumes. At noon the freshmen pro- vided the school with a parade, so everyone could see their beautiful attire. That night a party was held in the high school gymnasium, and the freshmen had the honor of furnishing the entertainment. Each of them had to take part in a stunt. The following pictures give a small example of the type of stunts that were performed. After all the initiation exercises were over the freshmen were recognized as full- fledged members of Pardeeville High School. This year's one-act play was a comedy entitled, The Florist Shop. The play was well presented at the league contest held at Pardeeville. We received a B+ rating. It was later presented at the Open House Program at school. The audience enjoyed the play and its many color- ful flowers which were part of the setting. STUDENT COUNCIL Top Row: Bill Thurston. The season got under way with the presentation of our one-act play. This year's play was The Flower Shop. We thought the play was the funniest yet. Unfortunately, we received a B rating and did not go on. Basketball season started, showing the boys a little rusty. But, with a little hard practice, they soon shaped up and started to play ball. They fought many a hard game. As the Christmas season approached, the school became alive with the hustle and bustle of typical yuletide spirit. This year's Christmas program was enjoyed by all and considered a huge success. The annual Christmas party was held on the afternoon of December 20. We had loads of fun sing- ing, dancing, exchanging gifts, and eating. Then, of course, we had a whole two weeks left for doing what we wanted. Too soon, however, we had to return to school on January 6 and settle down to our school routine. Before long our G.A.A. activities began in full swing. With a sigh of relief, semester exams came and went. For some the results were better than ex- pected; but for others... Yes, Pardeeville had many notable achievements to report during the long, cold winter. 16 Page Sponsored By J. C. JAMIESON SON CO. World's Best in Illuminated Signs 29 SPRING... It's spring again, that magic season that melts the seemingly everlasting snowbanks and begins the growth of living things. The grass again becomes green and all through the air is the warm scent of spring. Spring fever has again struck P.H.S., and at noon students lazily sit on the lawn and steps talk- ing, studying, and just enjoying the beautiful weather. The first bell rings and most students go to class, except for a few who linger outside until the last minute, then reluctantly go back to work. Windows are opened as students try their best to bring spring inside the school. However, spring fever has never stopped P.H.S. from making memorable achievements, and this spring has been no exception. The Forensic season was again a success, with Pardeeville ranking high. All remember the night when the Seniors presented their class play. Everyone received a fine night of entertainment. On April 25, the Juniors' big moment arrived, the night of their Junior Prom. The theme was April Love. Our music organizations practiced diligently during the spring and displayed their talents at the contests and Spring Concert. We knew it was definitely spring, when we saw our baseball and track teams drilling behind our school and in the park. Time passed quickly and on May 25 our Baccalaureate Service was held. Then on May 29, the Seniors walked down the aisle to the stately music of Pomp and Circumstance. The Seniors received their diplomas, and realized that graduation was the end of their carefree high school days, but more than that, a new and exciting beginning. 30 Page Sponsored By BURNS' ELECTRIC MOTOR SERVICE Rewinding and Repairing Top Row: G. The theme April Love was carried out by a Greek park scene with colonades for lighting. The park scene consisted of park benches and trees and shrubs. The punch bowl was cleverly displayed inside a rose arbor. The spectators were seated behind a stone wall. The king and queen ascended to the thrown made of two pink hearts where they were then crowned. The music was furnished by The Twilighters. A fine time was enjoyed by all who attended. 1 4 Q- Page Sponsored By WALLY'S SERVICE STATION Pardeeville, Wisconsin Phone 137 33 BASEBALL Top Row: Douglas Merrill. Gale Gibson. Ronald Knutson. They are listed in order 44 CLASS WILL We the Senior class of 1958 being of sound mind(?) and memory, after 12 excruciating years of formal education do hereby declare our last will and testament. To the Junior class we leave our ability to dominate and stand above all underclassmen. And, to the Freshmen we leave our integrity, intellect, cogitative faculties, percipiency, honesty, truthfulness and dependability. To the janitors we leave our engravings — wherever they may be. To the cooks we leave our gripes and groans about the food. To Mrs. Thurston we leave all of our tardy and absence slips. For Mr. Altenburg we will just leave. CLASS PROPHECY For the past four years the illustrious, hard-working Seniors of '58 have been working on a time machine, so that it will be possible to foretell the future. Now, it can be announced that it is in perfect working condition. It is set for the Seniors of '58, ten years from their graduation. Shall we look? Look who is a secretary, Suzaunne Ades — it seems she spends most of her time on the boss' lap. Diana Atkinson has achieved her ambition — she is now a policewoman. Pat Atkinson has risen to great heights as a telephone operator. She works on the top floor of the Empire State Building. We see that Alice Babcock is a successful businesswoman. She runs a baby clothing store in Doylestown. It seems Bob Balzer couldn't stay away from his favorite subject — he is now teaching English at P.H.S. Lee Barden has achieved his ambition — he owns a plantation in Georgia. Diana Beahm has married and settled down in Cambria — with Wayne, of course. Beverly Becker runs a motel in Florida — for men tourists only! Guess who has been chosen Rock and Roll King? None other than Dave Beimborn — he never told us he could sing! Sharon Breneman is in Mexico, using her Spanish to help her teach the Senors and Senoritas some English. Duane Brummel is now filling Mr. Osborn's job as Ag. teacher at P.H.S. Sharon Buzzel has her own dramatics school helping all of the future Marlon Brando's. We hope that she is keeping her mind on her business! Connie Calhoon has just entered the Olympics as U.S. ladies' champion discus thrower! Claudia Card has volunteered her services as a guinea pig on an experimental trip to the moon. It seems that Alan Cleveland has just made his Second million — producing the show Around the World in Eighty Minutes. Judy Eggleston's babysitting experiences have really paid off. She is now the mother of two sets of twins. Mike Eggleston is the president of All-American Scoreboard Corp. Couldn't have anything to do with that girl friend he had in 1958, could it? Seems that Vincent Fitzgerald is now coaching the Harlem Globetrotters who have been renamed the Sloppy Five. 46 Page Sponsored By PARDEEVILLE AUTO COMPANY “Ford Cars, Trucks and Tractors Dearborn Farm Equipment Say, I wonder what that sign says, oh, it's Oscar's Poultry Establishment.'' Looks like a mighty big farm. We see Marilyn Howe is in the home for the mentally unbalanced. Don't get us wrong — she's just been made head matron. Look who that famous mountain climber is — Eldon Hawley. Wonder where he got his ambition! And here we are at Sing-Sing. Look there's Kermit Hutzler — He's just been made warden. Well, the returns have just been announced for presidency. Well, I'll be, if it isn't our classmate Susan Justice. The first woman president of the United States. Here we are at Harvard. It seems Steve Kailing has been dean here for three years. Well, we see Doris Kath's dream finally came true, she is now Elvis Presley's head shoe-shiner. Say, now I wonder who is principal of P.H.S. No it can't be — but it is — none other than Ronnie Knutson. Guess what? Peter Langner has been elected National President of the Committee for safe teenage driving. As we tune in to Channel 3 who's show should we see but the one and only professional Rhumba dancer, Lucy Lynch, appearing on the Arthur Murray afternoon show each weekday, Monday through Friday.
