Courses are given in Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Hebrew under the supervision of Mrs. A. DeLauro. Students with outstanding interest and ability may elect to take an advanced program to develop a greater proficiency and pursue a more in-depth study of the history, culture, and literature of the country. Basic grammatical concepts are the major subject matter in the first two years of language study. Third and fourth year courses concentrate on native literature. Novels, plays, poetry are read in their original languages by individuals or entire classes. Due to student interest in the life of foreign cultures, there has been an expansion of the curriculum. This year Hebrew has been introduced. Through the study of a foreign language the student be¬ comes familiar with a country and its customs. History Political Science World Government Curriculum Directions Committee Chairman MR. DAVID W. CLARK History MR. RICHARD COHEN History Economics In the face of country-wide apathy, the Paramus High School Social Studies department, under the astute direction of Mr. L. Lanzalotto, is fostering a sensitivity and awareness of world problems in its students. It is imperative that we, the inhabitants of the modem world, realize that our age is not isolated — the successes and mistakes of our predecessors affect us, and, in turn, our decisions will effect future generations. By observing history, past and present, we may uncover a clue that will some day enable us to realize our dream of a better humanity. At present, our Social Studies curriculum offers such electives as sociology, psychology, civics, economic geogtaphy, and political science. All students now participate in a two-year required course of American History. As a result of the current building expansion program, there will be more classroom and teaching-aid space, enabling the department to revise the present two-year program to an elective system by semester courses.
