Mathematics Problems Anne Behr Arithmetic, Algebra, Chemistry Sophomore Class Committee Today ' s highly technical and scientific world has brought out a greater emphasis on the understanding and applications of mathematics. Our proficient staff offers courses to prepare students to meet the challenges of the careers in which mathematics plays such a decisive role. Students ' interests are often directed by the career on which they are focusing their future, and thus the curriculum they follow is determined on this basis. Those entering the commercial fields are offered excellent courses in general and business math. Industrial arts students are provided with expert training in shop math and mechanical drawing. Included in the program is a senior refresher course in mathematics for those desiring a review of the fundamentals before leaving high school. College bound students have found the advanced program of two and a half years of algebra, followed by a year of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, or calculus, to be a challenging and rewarding experience. Students in this program, participate in the Math League of Bergen County. Classroom observers are sure to find students eagerly tackling the proofs and problems outlined on the blackboards. Our math instructors have been successful in encouraging a better understanding of the principles of mathe¬ matics, owing to their extensive backgrounds and abilities to present solutions and explanations clearly and comprehensively. Teaching by machines has been introduced on an experimental basis this year.
