However un- successful, they placed heavily in the pole vault, hurdle events, and the broad iump. Led by Co-captains Les Coombes and Glen Chand- ler, they were always in there fighting. Highlight of the season was the fine showing made by Pirate Les Coombes. This senior was the only Varsity squad member to capture a place in the Coast League Track Finals. He won first place in the pole vault event with a iump of 12' 4 . Coaches Tom Middleton and Jerold Perkins ex- pect a better showing in 1961, thanks to returning Lettermen. 1960 TRACK RECORD A B C P.H.S. vs. Rancho Alamitos Lost Lost Lost P.H.S. vs. Pius X ....,Y,,..,.,,,, Lost Lost Tie P.H.S vs. Lakewood Lost Won Lost ' P.H.S vs. Jordon ....,,.,, Lost Lost Lost 1 P.H.S vs. Dominguez ,,.... Although a losing season was encountered, stellar performances were turned in by Larry Johnsonbaugh, Doyle Taylor, and Dave Peterson. With the experience gained, and the fine group of sophomore and iuniors returning to bolster the I96I squad, better things are fore- cast for the future.
