The A Cappella Choir, directed by Mr. William Stevens, gave many enioyable performances throughout the year. lts picked voices were first heard at the P.T.A. Open House, November 6. Christmas time found them singing the beloved songs of the season memorably at the annual Christmas Assembly, December 19. The group entertained for the Rotary Club, December 12, and appeared at the Music and Arts Festival held May 7 in the Pirate gym. May 28 found them traveling to Burroughs High School in Burbank for still another Music Festival. The beauty of their blended voices heard on the Pirate Field, June l8, in at Commencement, was fully appreciated by the cap and gowned graduates and their assembled families and friends. Musicmakers The Pirate Band, handsomely uniformed in maroon and white, added much to the excitcment and spirit of halftime during football season. Under the direction of Mr. Kenneth Briggs and led by Drum Maior Wes Osburn, the band appeared at all home games and pep assemblies. Other excel- lent performances took place at the Los Angeles County Fair, September 23, The Rosemead Parade, October 25, Band Day at the Los Angeles Colos- seum, November 8, All Western Band Review, November 29, Paramount Christmas Parade, De- cember l3, P.T.A. Program, January 8, C'ty of Paramount's Birthday Celebration, January 22, The Southern California Band and Orchestra Fes- tival, at which the group took the highest possible rating of Superior, and the Paramount Music and Arts Festival, May 7. lts final performance was given on Pirate Field, June 18, at graduation. in Demand Paramount Senior High School's Pirate Orchestra, under the capable direction of Mr. Kenneth Briggs, contributed much to the mJsical aspect of the year. The group made its first appearance De- cember I9 at the annual Christmas Assembly. The performance was repected that same night for citizens of the community. The group also played in the Southern California Band and Orchestra Festival held in the Pirate Gym, March l3. A rat- ing of Excellent was netted in this competitive event. Another exhibition of musical skill took place May 7, during the Parcmount Music and Arts Festival. The year was concluded with a performance of an oppropriate program for Bac- calaureate, June l-4.
