Counted among California's most talented musicians were those selected from the Pirate music department to attend the California Western Music Educators' Conference at Pasadena. Shawn with Mr. Karle Maior, assistant choir director at the conference, these outstanding performers are: Barr Doty, band, Suzanne Ber- geron, choir, Greg l.oVetere, orchestra, and Clyde Pearce, choir. Tops in vocal music on the Pirate campus is , offered by the A Cappella Choir. Under the direc- tion of Mr. Karle Maior, this group has been heard 1, at many programs throughout the school year. lt heralded the Christmas season with an impressive if .v medley at the pre-vacation assembly, December l4. Guests on the campus, visiting the choir room, always enioyed the lilting numbers from Carou- sel and Oklahoma, as well as a beautifully reverent version of The Lord's Prayer. Appear- ing at the Paramount Music Festival, May 9, the choir's selections included Creation, The Heav- ens are Telling, and Poor Man Lazrus. The group concluded a fine year by singing airs from My Fair Lady and Some Enchanted Evening from South Pacific, at the Garden Grove Choir Festival. lO5

BAND CLUB, now in its second busy year, is sponsored by Band Director Mr. Kenneth Briggs. It consists of band members whose school spirit and interest in music find outlet here. Directing its activities in 1956-1957 has been this corps of officers: President Bill Loper, Vice President Steve Fletcher, and Secretary-Treasurer Janice Pettygrove. PEP CLUB, consisting of song and yell leaders, conducted a popcorn sale and supervised the try-outs for their 1957 successors. Presidents Rose Perry and Carmae Fellon have been assisted by Marilyn Griffin, vice president, and Phyllis Brown and Sandy Leidal, secretar-treasurer.
