:lr PW Buenos dias! Spanish classes lend P.H.S. an atmosphere of old Mexico. Learning to read, write, and speak Spanish correctly is the iob of college preparatory students. They travel the roads of Spain and old Mexico, led by Senora Virginia Nelson, with limit- less enthusiasm. Geometry, taught patiently to math-minded Pirates, boasts many college-bound students. Dealing with figures drawn on a flat sur- face, this class is for enrollees with definite professions in mind. The course, reviewing algebra, stresses the fundamentals of trig- onometry and is taught by Mrs. Eva O'Con- nell and Mr. Donald Frederick. X

Training and practice on up-to-date office machines, handled by Mr. Nello DiCorpo, is deservedly popu- lar. Here Pirates prepare for future positions as they become familiar with the operation of rotary calcu- lators, adding and listing machines, ten-key adding machines, dicta- phones, and voice writers. Rehearsing for Caine Mutiny or l2 Angry Women is great fun in Mr. Edwin's Groh's drama class. AI- though few, if any, of these actors will reach Hollywood or Broadway, they find the poise, diction and con- fidence gained here valuable. Their productions add a much needed ele- ment to campus entertainment.

illnmurrntn ruins nut nf Tlluhap The ambitious Porthole crew offers a boost to team morale and school spirit when its issues appear every other Friday. Eager, democratic, and rushed are its reporters who gather all the news. Supervised by Mrs. Esther Ericson and under the editorship of Fran Lewis, these journalists are forever con- cern with copy, accuracy, deadlines, and the mounting costs of publication. The Pirate art department, in the hands of Mr. Harold Collins, welcomes students to the realm of fine arts. Each develops his own bent and assists, as well, with projects beneficial to the campus, such as Football Banquet and Carnival Dance decorations. Sketching trips to Knott's Berry Farm and the Huntington Library offer relaxation and inspiration.
