Social Studies . History in the mek' ng 1 iw. Augie zito Mr w .lll am Farrell Mr Pat Llndmark Mrs Mildred Penis D epan ment Chairman The objective of the Social Stud- ies Department is the focus on the major roles through which most young peo- ple and adults participate in the social world - citizen, worker, consumer, family member, friend, member of social groups and self. Social studies can help young people under- stand, value and function creatively and competently in these roles and thereby assist them to become effective partici- pants in our soci- ety. Success in this endeavor would, in my opin- ion, fulfill the role of the Social Stud- ies Department, said Mr. Augie Zito, department chairman. The Social Studies Depart- ment had many guest speakers this year from such places as Planned Parent- hood, Alcoholics Anonymous, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Phoenix Police Depart- ment. 72 Mr. Pat Lind- mark writes up his lesson plans for the week. Erica Storms, Senior, dis- cusses an assignment with Mr. Fleif- enrath.
