The Home Economics Department planned a busy and exciting year for their students. For the first time at Paradise Valley, the Human Relations class planned and carried out all the prepa- rations for a Mock Wedding held at Paradise Valley Park. The occasion was a lot of fun for the spectators and all those involved. There was an increased enrollment in the depart- ment that brought on an addition to the staff, Mrs. Janet Dickey. She taught Child Development, Pot- pourri and Foods 1. A new course was also added to the curriculum this year, Human Relations 2. The course tries to help the student build a better understanding of the obligations of marriage. The classes had a variety of guest speakers, including Bob Hutchins, the Paradise Valley PAYS Cpolice assisting youth in schoolj Officer, and Beth Lockhart who teaches adoptive parenting classes through St. Joseph's Hospital. The Human Relations class maintained an extended nursery school. ln the past years the nurs- ery school has been attended by three and four year olds, which gives the prospective students a chance to work with different age levels. Students got a chance to learn about a variety of subjects through a phone exchange at the Camel- back Hospital and Phoenix Baptist Hospital. Tapes are prepared on subjects of interest giving pertinent information. Students may call to receive the inform- ation. Mrs Karen Behning was a substitute for the teachers all year and a great help, said Mrs. Arm- strong Home Economics Department Chairman. Bride Debbie Lundsten and Groom Ron Wihans take the traditional walk back up the aisle after the mock wedding. A reception followed the wedding.
