Returning from the 1980 PVHS Track team, which captured the Skyline Division Track Meet Championship, was David Moravek, who is listed as best 800 meter runner in the State AAA. Tom Martin returned as the number 2 long jumper in our Skyline Division. Jim Camp returned as the best shot putter in the state with David Weber rated in the top 5 returning discus throwers. Also return- ing from last year's team were Tom Sues and Kevin Teed. To implement the budget, the team had a Jog-A- Thon and candy sale. The PV Booster Club sup- ported the team faithfully. The team worked with the Booster Club to gather advertising for the annual PV invitational Track Relays, a completely self-supporting, non-school track meet. PVHS Track has a rich tradition of athletes that are goal setters and high achievers in their various events which together as a team spells success, said Coach Cherry. Tennis. .swings into busy season 'Sh' The teams are young but they are gaining experience, said Jim Schonaerts, Coach. They went up against some ofthe best in the State dur- ing the West High tournament. The team has one returning player, Gary Ben- nett, who plays in the number one position. The rest ot the team are players who also played on the Freshman team. These Freshmen will be the heart of the next year's varsity team. Gary Bennett uses his effective forehand shot against his Shadow Mountain opponent.
